    Hi guys,
Just a quick question about Handi lantern badges.I have several Handi lanterns and they predominantly have the Red Paint over Brass Badge on the collar ( I think these were sold with Keropet Lanterns set up with kerosene generator). I have 2 with Blue Paint over Brass badges (set up with generator for petrol?).
Then my brother, knowing about my lamp problems (ie i never have enough), bought a Keropet for me on the weekend. It has a black label I have never seen before. Has anyone else seen these often. It must be about my 20th+ish Handi Keropet and its new to me.
Anyway, he fettled it to working order as his first ever pressure lantern and it looks like he's going to keep it himself. aaargghh. Hopefully I can get some of the other paraphernalia he picked up at the same time.

I've got a couple of Handi lanterns, one of which I use from time-to-time. It has to be the quickest lighting kerosene lantern I have, by many a mile - generally 20-30 seconds is all the preheating it needs. I think it's something to do with the skinny generator it has.

The other one is unlit and will remain so. Unfortunately it was left undisturbed in a shed for decades and has suffered as a result...

This looks like the last style used on the brass name plates (I believe the last name plates were aluminium). I have only seen them with red background though. Could this be painted up at a later date?

Don't think so Nils. Paint looks original. And I think your right that it is a later model, due to the black hood and overall good condition.
I may have jumped the gun though. I got back from work today and thought I'd check some other Keropets. The first 3 from my "need work" shelf all had different badges and one had black paint on brass, but different wording. "recommend Shell Blue Pennant Kerosene" instead of "Shell Household Kerosene". Anyway, for interests sake I will check closer and see what variety of badges are around. Handi had so many different colours of ventilator, different badges, different metal collars etc and combinations seem very random.
Here's the 3 I had a quick look at this arv.

The blue name plate listed says We recommend Shell household kerosine. I just noticed the black one has Shell as recommended too.

I'd only ever seen the red ones that state they recommend Pennant kerosene. I don't know when Pennant fell by the wayside.

They're great lanterns, Chris - you definitely need to get one in your collection!

Just mind the glass, that's all...
