Hello, I have just joined, what an interesting site. I have a nice old Gloria lamp found locally in Goulburn, i think I have dated it correctly between 1915-1918 but welcome any and all comments, kind regards, Nick
Now that is a very fine lamp! Those pics should be in the Gallery. If you haven't got it going, I'm sure you'll find plenty of help around here. Welcome on board. Tony
Certainly is a beauty, but I get the feeling looking at your pictures your missing some parts? There's nothing to take the fuel from the tap to the burner is there?
Hello Matt, yes, the vapouriser is missing and the shut off valve is not set properly. I reckon that the burner system would have been similar to the one which is shown on Conny's lamp, check out the link below, Jeff. 1910-1915 Gloria B table lamp
Absolutely stunning lamp. I wonder how many of these are still floating around Australia today. What a beautiful project to get this lamp running again
Nice lamp there . Only thing wrong is no generator and globe should have a air hole in bottom etc that looks like a electric shade. Bob .
A rather scarce lamp, Gloria (Aus) is an interest of mine like much of Australia's manufacturing not a lot of paper to the find information of their history.
Spot on Lamp doctor it cam to me without its globe about ten years ago and i realised the electric jobbie fitted and there you have it, I am not going to keep it, my passion lies with Old pewter and 16th & 17th century English lantern clocks. I have enjoyed it for ten years time to move it on. Thanks Nick
Hi there. I acquired this beautiful lamp today and I was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit about it? I see similar models on posts but there seems to be another part on the base. There seems be two parts missing also, one the brass pipe across the top and something that screws on to where the filament would go. Any info on it and thoughts on if I may be able to find parts for it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Welcome, @Moi. You have an excellent Australian Gloria there. Take a look in the Reference Gallery here for examples of the Australian Glorias: Gloria In your photos it’s missing the dome over the badge area. So you have it? And it’s missing a generator. I’ve restored a fair few of these, so I’d be happy to assist you. Best regards Tony
Hi Tony. Thanks for your reply and the offer to assist. As you see it is how it came. I'm trying to understand the pressure side of it. ( I have never met a pressure lamp before). I see in your breakdown pics there is a pump of sorts on the base of the ones you restored? Has that something to do with the dome you asked about. Also..what fuel is used? Thanks you. Moi
Its the number 20 table lamp Tony, and I think the part you are talking about the dome, is rusted on this one.
(your post Tony ) This lamp in the Reference Gallery is also an Australian-made Gloria No. 20 “Portable Lamp”: Gloria lamp (Made in Australia) Cheers Tony ....could this be the same one in the reference photos you posted about...I think it may be...
@Moi Ah! I see now that it’s a curved plate, not a “dome”. These are Shellite lamps (naphtha, not kerosene). If you want I can talk you through the system. I’ve got time tomorrow. Tony
Hello and welcome! A nice old lamp! there is another similar to yours in the gallery with the same coloured wood handle and globe cheers
