While we are on this topic of generator renovation I thought I'd share this. After years of getting these on lanterns or lamps only to find the tube plugged or the pricker wire broken I decided to do an "autopsy". The gas tip is silver brazed onto the outlet end. I un brazed it. Inside there is a rolled fine mesh brass screen material that is wound to make a passage for the pricker shaft. I unrolled it and found it in rough shape. Soaked it in AC Delco X-66 carbon remover then citric acid. Once it was clean I re rolled the mesh around a pricker shaft that had no wire for a mandrel making sure the shaft would slide through it. I then cleaned the tube with citric acid and power brushed it with a .30 caliber stainless bore brush chucked in a drill press. Once cleaned the fill was put back in and the gas tip brazed back in place with 56% silver solder. I also found a source for that brass screen. Source for fine mesh brass screen material The "renovated" generator now resides here. Bob
Another source is McMaster Carr. You can buy in 12"x12" $8.89, 12"x24" $15.11, 12"x60" $27.29. Also have 24" and 36" wide sheets. Cost per Sq. Ft is higher but if you don't need 22 sq.ft. it's an option. http://www.mcmaster.com/#brass-screens/=az0593
McMaster Carr is a good place to buy stuff. They have interesting stuf like lead sheet and various types of Synthetic rubber which you can buy in one foot square sheets of made up as O rings in a vast range of sizes. What I like about these guys is the small quantities they will sell stuff in. I don't know of they will ship overseas though. I have always had a friend in Chicago order what I need and then he ships to me. For the quantities I need it works out reasonable. ::Neil::
