Anyone that knows about this brand? Made in Germany. I bought the lamp on ebay a couple of years ago from Malta. The funny thing is that BOSSE is the nick name for BO here in Sweden. So this is actually my own brand.
dont know anything but the fact I saw one here as well at another collection so probably an export model
I don't know anything about the lantern (other than the slanted holes in the ventilator remind me of Picostar) but it seems odd that the nickname is longer than the actual name. It's the other way round in the UK. Whatever, congratulations in getting a lantern with your name on it! - the rest of us just have to make do with our birthday lanterns...
You're right, David. The slots looks very much like on the Picostar. The model looks similar to nr 572 that is in the gallery. Only difference is that mine don't have a torch pre-heater. I agree nick names use to be short for another name but I believe Bosse has become more used because it is much easier to say, two characters only is too short.
I have a nickname or 2 that are longer than my real name - it's not that unusual. One of the reasons my Ma liked the name Ross is because it couldn't be shortened - it can be lengthened though into several variations.
As a general rule of thumb (in Australia at least), if you've got a short name it gets lengthened and if you've got a long name it gets shortened. That's not to mention all the other names you might get called that have nothing to do with your real name. Btw, never heard of the lamp before but it must have Picostar connections.
the vent is original as the Bosee I saw had the same type of vent. as first I thought it came off a picostar or daylite but it looks original to this type. maybe same factory with the same tooling?
Looks the same as Daylite or Picostar. Does it have anything marked on the contol and what is on the label on the collar please. ::Neil::
This is what I call a late reply. 7 years The label on the collar only sais No 531. The control wheel is probably broken so trace there. Today I started to fettle with it. No funny thing I promise. The first I had to do was drilling out the head of the center screw as it was fixed into a piece under that whas rotating. And I find this, a very strange design. I have no idea what the perforated ceramic piece is used for. And why a square hole into it? I have to do some customised solution to get all parts together again. But I wont spend too much work on this lamp, it is almost a wreck and not worth it. Bo
Hi all, if my memory serves me well I noticed somewhere that Bosse should be be (like also Picostar and Daylite) another brand of Meyer & Niss Company, Hamburg / Germany. I could try to find out with help from a fellow collector, if someone is interested in this matter. I don't have an explanation for the square ceramic block, but overall these lanterns seem to be built in a very solid manner. BR, Martin
