That is a great find and an excellent fettling project and the tank should be date stamped and the model number should be on the collar.
Whoa, that is a great find. The original globe and NRV style pump attest to it's age and wheel instead of a lever on the cleaning rod control will identify the model. If my memory is holding out that is a 242K.
Hence my interest in this lamp as it would seem to be a close match to my 2242 Made in England one we discussed recently. Can you let me have a close up of the knob/wheel on the pricker and does it screw off? If this is the original Coleman globe should I have the same globe on mine?
Hi jeff the date is 9-34 the collar on these was unstamped as far as I am aware,it is indeed a 242k,i will try to get a close up of the pricker wheel over the weekend.
Further to the pricker wheel jean it does unscrew, but it is on a very finely threaded spindle and I would urge extreme caution as it can easily snap off,i was lucky in that mine was unseized so I have just carefully cleaned around it,i am unsure of the glass yours would of had as I have never come across one before, hope this is of some help, tony
Tony, not sure if my pricker wheel has snapped off or just come off, that's why I would like a close up so I know what to look out for. Look forward to seeing pics, thanks.
Jean. model 242K used the same bulge globe as 242A and all the later variations of these small lanterns up to mode 200A. Should still be available. Model 242K will be date stamped but will not have the model number marked anywhere. Getting to be a rare and expensive lamp. One sold a few days ago on the Bay for serious cash. ::Neil::
There were a couple that sold recently for good money, although the one in Canada looks like a 247 / 242K transition model. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221753975626 http://www.ebay.com/itm/141629589312
