I was asked how I store my hanginglamps and you can see how here:

    1431192432-001_opt.jpg

This demands available places in the house and will soon give a reputation as "the crazy catlady" if you collect more than 5.

Its easier with the traditional pressurelamp you can put on a shelf.

So does anyone have a good idea for storing hanglamps in another way  - any hanglamp-collectors out there :?:

Well, one is in a large box on the floor in the library. Another is hanging in the corridor, in front of a painting - because there was a hook for it. One is standing on a table, etc. But I think that I can proudly say that one is already hanging nicely over the coffee table, another will be hung over the dining table, another one over the desk - it will be great! :content: But the rest of them...

I guess that the good advice, that I will seek to follow, is from one of the Aladdin lamp collectors manuals by J.W. Courter: buy the lamps that fit into your home...

    Hi Claus
I think when you collect anything storage or displaying them become a problem for most collectors, If you collected just table lamps you would run out of space at some point
I have my hanging lamps suspend on chains from a piece of wood on the celler ceiling at present tho I have more not on the picture I intend to display in the house at some point.

Since you are talking about storing and not display I'd say just toss them in where ever you got a spare room.
Just as you hint, they aren't as easy to tuck away as the table lamps or lanterns.
For the lanterns it's just to choose a suitable room in your house and then put two or three layers of shelfs all around the walls and you can get rid of hundreds of lanterns and table lamps and actually get a display on the bargain.

The hanging lamps are not so easy. They tend to be placed in the basement or even in the wood shed.

You can also place a bunch in the corner behind a door that always is fully opened. That way they are easy to get, but they wont disturb anyone normally:

Or in a closet in the basement:

Or on the floor in the "storage room" among other crap like carbide lamps and moose antlers:

Or in a corner of another dedicated storage room:

Or why not in your "wine cellar":

Nah! Hanging lamps are mainly a pain in the ass.
But still some of the most treasured gems in your collection, so even if they are hard to put on display, you must keep them somewhere handy so you easily can take them out when you intend to use them.

What a fine display Pete  . This seems like a fine way. I was thinking doing something like that, just using the underside of the shelfs in the racking I already have for lamps, but they wont fit in the shelfarea.
I can see you store without the shades - is that to avoid mistakes comming from down-up :?:

Hehe Christer, our posts crossed. My Missy would kill me if I stored lamps like that and maybe even throw a vaccum-cleaner onto one.
You are right the hanginglamps are some of the most nice lamps and the storing of them set unfortunately a limit in collecting for persons like me.
Still Pete's way is also possible to make in any room, a bit remote maybe, but possible.

What!? Isn't the basement specifically reserved for the men to do whatever they want with? Just as the garage.
I thought that was the deal. :-k ;)
Similar to the Brits and their sheds.

But I can see your point.

Tell you what. Just hand anything over to me that you can't find the space for at your place. I have barns I can place them in.
But if you do, they are mine...

 Frankly the barns aren't mine, but I'm allowed to use them. They are within the family, so to speak.
It's good to have many places to put the stuff in.
Strangely enough you never seem to have enough space anyway...

I do have a garage and for a couple of years I had lamps there. They got surface-corroded by the moist in the air though the roof lets no Water in.
I live nearish the sea, so sometime there comes seamist in with salt in the air and that is especially a lamp-surface-killer.

To store lamps in generel in a barn here back home, without damage, I considered storing them in big plastic-bags and closing these with strips.
But that would invalid the sudden joy of a lamp I think.

Haha, I've lost count of how many hanging lamps I've got here, but what I can tell you is there are only two hanging up. The rest are in cupboards, under the beds and in the spare room on the floor. Maybe one day I'll find some more rafters.

Hi Claus I keep all the glass on a shelf its safer there than on the lamps when the grandsons are playing as they sometime get curious about the lamps

yes Jeff thanks they do look better all in one place like I have them now intend to put some in the house but I have 12foot ceilings here so they may be too high to look at properly

    cheers pete

Pete, I do have a racking that goes from floor to the the ceiling, 2,8 meter.
After seeing your solution, I think I will cut of the upper section of the racking at least in one side of room and Mount a stainless 6 mm tentor-steel along the racking for hanging lamps in moveable chains with hooks.
If I finish of with White paint, nobody will see the tentor-steel and the racking will even become more stabile I think

Here there is almost no hanging lanterns at all on the market so pictures of them will not cause pain.
