I used to be a member of another forum and every now and then someone would start a rolling topic. They would say a few words and then someone else would continue.

    Right, here we go.

I was walking down the street and saw.....

To be honest Matty I think you should have stuck with the other forum.

I suppose I could have Jean but once I sold it, I decided it was time to leave.

I suppose, from your comment, I'm an idiot but that's OK, I've been called worse.

Matty, I'm sure it was said tongue in cheek more as an observation of the un-interest from people to catch on and fill in on the story to become.

It's just how it is here. The main focus lays on the lamps, and not many post in the chit-chat section.
Unlike other forums where it often is the other way around.
Like at our sister site CCS!
If posted there, it would have been atleast two pages already.

Considering the topic had 14 views when Jean decided I should have stuck at the 'other' forum (non lamp related) I thought her call was a bit harsh.

Having said that, now two of my fellow members have indicated I'm probably out of touch with my idea of a bit of fun, I'll retire from posting on this forum.

Gee, it's not like I asked for a pint of blood. If Jean or anyone else didn't wish to participate in my, apparently, un-lamp forum like topic, they could have simply ignored the topic whilst mumbling "idiot" under their breath.

I promise, I'll never post again in case of offending the masses.

I actually dont know this type of game - if I write:

"I saw a Group of womens and the fattest started telling about - "

    would that be right?

Matty, I must confess I was in a bit of a foul mood when I logged on. No offence was meant - and none taken I hope?

If members are to be criticised and driven from the site for posting in the Open Forum, "The place for members to talk about whatever they like", then what is the point in having an Open Forum?

Terry, no one has been criticised as far as I can tell. I think you are reading too much into Jeans comment. As I said; surely it was tongue in cheek.
And yes, this is the open forum to speak about anything.
That is actually what we do right now, so no problems there.

And who are those two? One is absolutely not me, if that was what you thought.
I think you might mis-interpret what people are saying, and that's unfortunate.

I thought your idea was fun. And I have of course seen that kind of story making on other forums, so I am familiar with them.

I think I like this game, Matty - but I do not know what you saw on the street? ;) :D

Thanks for putting a bit of fun in here!

Maybe for lantern enthusiasts open forum that has topics that are somehow related to lanterns or to life of members makes sense.

I don't know how much topics that are there to get fillings to the forum will add value for the forum.

I agree, Kerry, that should be the principle of any forum.

Looks like Matty went for a honeycomb, and hit a wasps nest.

I can see the train of thought that might pass the time by following on with various additions to a story started by one line, but as it doesn't catch my interest - chose not to view until now. But that's what open forums are like. Join in what you like, or simply choose not to. No need to knock it.

I was walking down the street and saw a man who realised that change was not always a bad thing. He posted a thread in an off topic board because he knew that without tempting the young his hobby would have no future.

And a future, he thought, would be a nice thing to have, even for a hobby. Even for this kind of hobby - the hobby of the past. He looked around, saw all the faces of all the people in the street - none of them knew. He could see that. None of them had any kind of old lamp at home, didn't know that lamps could be old.
