Just bought Primus 1019 that is missing parts from car boot sale. I just bought the lantern to get parts(tank cap, NRV, pump piston) for stoves. I noticed that 1019 is not so common so maybe it's not so good idea to destroy the lantern just for few parts . I have no experience from Primus lanters since I just have Tilley, Optimus and Petromax lanterns (and one small Geniol ). So I have few questions... I guess that 1019 is 300 cp lantern? I have 200cp and 300cp jets for Primus lanterns and they seems to have different threads. Is that "normal" or are they from different era? Will 1020 parts fit to 1019?
The 1019 is basically a steel version of the 1020. Being steel not many have survived and therefore they are not that common. I would certainly recommend you keep it. Primus used their own jets for their lamps. The 200cp jets used a 7mm diameter thread but with a Whitworth pitch of 28 tpi. The 300cp jets were also 7mm diameter but 35 tpi.
Thank's Nils, I got same results when I measured the jets. Someone has tried to use Optimus/Petromax jet on vaporizer and that has destroyed the threads on it. (Threads cannot be repaired easily since 7mm 35 tpi taps are not so easy to get. Maybe it would be possible to get custom made taps, but price might get too high...) Maybe I try to find 1020 and take vaporizer and glass from that to get 1019 running. I have glass that fits to 1019 so maybe I just do M7*0,75 thread to vaporizer & jet if I cannot find 1020 for spares .
If the jet thread is damaged beyond repair, then you might as well try to re-tap it to M7. I'm sure someone would have a spare 1020 vaporiser. It's possible I have, but I am not home at the moment so can't check.
The thread on vaporizer was totally destroyed with Petromax/Optimus jet. I already re-tapped thread to M7x0,75 since I happen to have that size taps&die (=for Primus Omnifuel jet). Primus 300cp jet went few turns into vaporizer but threads are quite long in Primus jet so I was not able to get the jet up to the bottom of the threads. I didn't want to re-die the jet yet since I only have two of those jets. Also vaporizer seemed to have some extra brazing that I am not sure if somebody has tried to repair or modify somehow. If I would have re-died the jet and if vaporizer has some fault I would have non usable jet . Vapourizer is missing also the rod(in Swedish: RENSSTÄNGER Found that translation from fogas site) that holds the needle. If you Nils or someone has those I would be interested to buy/trade them. I forgot to mention that spirit cup was lost also...
I was thinking that an Optimus jet might work if the thread is changed. I'm not sure how well the cleaning rod will work with this jet though. It might be worth finding an old 1020 for the parts. There are lots of them in Sweden. The spirit cup could be a challenge though as they are often missing.
Maybe 1020 is good option to get since Swedish sale sites seems to have them for sale regularly. That would also offer original Primus glass for the lantern. Dude that has put Optimus/Petromax jet to the vaporizer has just turned jet into vaporizer just but using force without making correct thread. I don't have correct tap for Optimus/Petromax jet so I cannot try that option. Since there is not too much to loose with that vaporizer maybe just for fun I make some kind of insert and use some jet to test if lantern works. Now vaporizer has M7x0,75 thread so maybe I just make the insert that allows me to use "standard stove jet". I have various size stove jets so I can test if some of them would work in that lantern.
Stove jets does generally have a much larger orifice. A normal domestic paraffin stove has around 0.23-0.30 if I recall correct. That's way too large for a 300CP paraffin lantern. But you could of course use them, place a restrictor in the air tube, and run the lantern on alcohol.
I was thinking that maybe 0,23 jet might work. I also have few jets that are for canister mounted Propane torches and lanters. They seems to be even smaller than that 0,23 jet since picker that I use 0,23 jets is way too big for them. I also have few well worn 0,30 jets. Maybe I can try to fix them with a piece of an injection needle to be a small size jet. On CCS side they have made those fixes.
