    Evening all,
I have just lit a new Relum Magnalux lamp that I have had for a while with the purpose of using it at the vintage shows we attend. I used an Anchor 500 cp mantle that came with it. Whilst it seems very bright, I have Tilleys that seem to be just as good.

Can anyone recommend an alternative mantle that may give better performance ?
    Regards
    David
PS - I have taken a series of photos of unpacking and lighting this lamp which I will post up later when I have more time.

For good brightness, Peerless mantles work well. Or, and this is what I frequently use, I found Liberty mantles on ebay that use thorium and run white hot.

Helox are a new mantle by petromax that contain no thorium or asbestos. I have them and peerless and the two are on par with each other. They both form into a sock shape rather than a bulb.

Thanks for the replies. I had another play with the Relum tonight and it seems to be burning much better. Have a look in the Lamp Action Gallery!
I still intend to experiment with alternative mantles and I have read that the Peerless 24A mantles are extremely bright.
I have found both the Peerless and Liberty mantles on Ebay USA so it would seem they are only available stateside. The Liberty sock mantles seem available in packs of 20, the Peerless in smaller quantities. Looks like I can purchase these and avoid customs duty as these will be well below the customs limit.
Will report back further, and would be pleased to hear of any other recommendations.
    Regards
    David
