    Hi all
I am currently running my vapalux, Tilley and Petromax on 28 second oil - brought 20 litres from a local supplier
I also use this in my Primus stove
    All seems to work ok
The lamps are mostly run whilst camping, still a bit smelly though is there any advantage in running Amish mix ? Will this help with the smell ?
I can use paraffin from the hardware store, this is more expensive
Just wondering what everyone is using fuel wise ? Cost etc
    Lamp oil is quite expensive

    Any tips or thoughts

    Many thanks
    Simon

Just looked up 'Amish Mix', learning every day !

I just use 28sec Kero. I buy in bulk to a degree as we go through quite a bit in our stationary engines at vintage rallies and for the limited use of the lamps I just stick with the Kero for ease. Probably smellier and a bit sootier than Premium pre-packed paraffin, but I just use what I have to hand. I do stick with Coleman Fuel in my Coleman lamps though, but I have heard of folk using panel wipe etc.

I bought 25 litres of Kero just last week for 61p/litre. That will do me for a while! I have been trying for a few years to get a source of JET A1 aviation fuel to no avail, the old engines would love that and I am sure the lamps would run very nicely too!
    Regards
    David

I have been using 28sec heating oil in Vapalux and Tilley lamps. It burns fine, does not seem to clog jets unduly and only 'stinks' when its in liquid form - no problem as long as you don't spill it... Bought 20 litres this week at 84p/litre, not the cheapest but about half the cost of paraffin from the local hardware shop...
