Hi Afterburner, thank you so much, that's exactly what I was searching for... I've got some lanterns from that era and from the drawings I can now tell that they have not been modified so far. Maybe Neill will move the post to the reference gallery, but I can tell you that it's well worth registering in CPL to get access to the members area; you'll find much useful information and support those who spend their time to organize that all. Martin, I have been "working" mainly with stoves and for that reason I haven't joined in to "the dark side) (yet). Though I have few lanterns just to use in my summer cottage and few of them just for collection( totally around 25 pcs. ) Maybe I need to join in since more lanterns is coming. For just seeing parts and model maybe Finnish brochures will work also. Well that link is spelled very Danish for a start "Belysningspetroleum" Hmm rest is swedish and I did never see that Word used in Sweden, but "Ljusfotogen". Claus C
Yes it's Finno-Swedish. Some words differ, and you can generally see that the "setup" of the language is a tad bit different between them. It's not "ljusfotogen" by the way. It's "lysfotogen"
My pleasure! I placed those two Finnish spoken ones in the spare parts library. As you say, even if you perhaps don't understand Finnish, they are still good for the illustrations. All these digitized paperwork are downloadable as PDF's, but we'll just settle with the links for now.
Maybe those brochures were some kind of sign? Just on end of week before last one I bought one older looking Petromax and two Tilley 246's from one dude. I didn't had time to see lanterns more detail since I needed to go for a working tip to UK. Today I went to a car boot sale and I bought three Petromax lanters from there. I am not very familiar with Petromax lanterns so my only strategy to buy was a "Made in Germany" text on tank/fount. Today when I got home I checked what I got. 1. One is a complete Petromax baby like this one: http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/6168 There is a number 86 scratched in the bottom, so maybe manufacturing date is August 1936? That lanterns needs cleaning, some seals and new mantle and it's ready to be fired up. 2. I got two 826's. One is quite complete only glass was missing. It has an oval shape type/name plate that has a text "Petromax 826 No 826 Erhcrich u. Graetz A:G Berlin S.O. 36 Made in Germany". There is a number 261020 scratched in the bottom, so is the manufacturing date 26. October 1920? Second 826 was quite incomplete just for spare parts. 3. Last one was a complete 828 like this one with post 1941 pre-heater: http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4161 Red and black enameling has quite many dents, but otherwise lantern seems to be ok.
Can't be 1920. Petromax never made any lanterns before around 1928/9. 821 and 826 were made from the 1930s for many years so there are quite a few variations but dating from stamped or scratched on numbers is not safe. The oval plate suggests a 1930s lantern. ::Neil::
Yes I'm well aware. Why do you think we don't allow Photobucket and other 3:rd party image hosting? I already have those pdf's at my hard drive in case of that scenery. I'm just not sure if they are OK to upload here, or if they only are allowed for personal download. I don't think it's any problems. Libraries are seldom picky with these things.
