I wish I lived close enough to grab this bargain. I'd risk filtering the kero and trying it. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/northbridge/miscellaneous-goods/8-x-cans-of-kerosene-for-sale/1081805338 Hopefully an Aussie that lives close by will see this post.
This:- http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/baulkham-hills/miscellaneous-goods/kerosene-fuel-for-free/1080490313 is more my price but I think the cost of collection for me might spoil the deal...
Yes, it is $1 extra in my listing but wait there is more! for that extra $1 you get the 8 containers free.
Initially when I first saw people selling off this type of thing I thought they had made a mistake by saying it was kerosene instead of heating oil. That may still be the case. It's just that you see so many of them describe it as kerosene you think they can't all be wrong. Perhaps you should give them a call and confirm what it is or isn't?
Over here if its in the house hold tank its heating oil not kero all its good for is outside wick lamps . Got a tank on wall myself full of heating oil about 300 litres for free to . They used to use this oil for space heaters and some old stoves . I used to convert old wood stoves to heating oil etc Bob .
In the UK at least, 28-second heating oil is equivalent to kerosene and will work well in pressure lamps...
As David said, in the UK heating oil is kerosene. From the Bayfordoil website: "Kerosene is the most common home heating oil fuel in the UK and has a number of different names. Some of these include: 28-second heating oil Heating oil Domestic oil Kerosene 28" Some older systems may use 35 second Gasoil (diesel), which may be what is used in Oz? I use UK heating oil in my kerosene lamps and stoves with no issues. Terry
In Belgium pure kero is dyed yellow, heating kero is red and car diesel is colourless (that's why kero is coloured, so you can't use it in your car! "Yellow" kero is cheaper than diesel at the pump, and slightly more expensive than heating (red) kero. Kero bought in 20liter plastic cans at the D.I.Y shops is twice as costly for the exact same product! Liter bottles are over 4€ a piece. I payed 18€ for slightly over 20liters at the pump last week. Best regards, Wim
Kerosene in Australia, in my experience, is dyed blue. Oil heating has largely died out in Australia, that started to happen in the '70's, due to the energy crisis then. Kero seems to be cheaper in Belgium than here. The best prices I see for 20 litre drums is about $AU70.
Matty Almost all kerosene in Australia is now Jet A1 (since the demise of much of our domestic refining). When sold as domestic lighting kerosene it is dyed blue. Cheers Tony
