I would like to bid on ebay.co.uk, but most vendors will not ship outside the UK. Would someone be willing to accept packages and reship for me? I could send payment via PayPal for postage and effort.

I'd just like to set something up in advance to take advantage of a good deal that I can afford!

In principle, I'd be happy to do that for you, Al...

However, postage from the UK isn't cheap, especially if the package goes over 2 kg. In these cases it's usually cheaper to split the lantern (or whatever) into two parcels. The other problem would be that either of our postal services, customs etc. are likely to take a very dim view of pressure vessels being flown over the pond, especially where hydrocarbon fuels have been contained therein. Surface mail can take many weeks...

I have never had a problem sending lamps by air mail. They seem to go through withought any trouble. ::Neil::

I've learned about the cost from buying books from the U.K. But sometimes you have to do what you have to do!

I'm thinking that my greatest challenge is going to be asking the vendor to ship to an address that isn't my verified PayPal address!

I'll let both of you know if and when I see something, and we can PM to see if would work out.

    Many thanks!

Just for a bit of fun I was looking at what sellers wanted postage, to Australia, on UK ebay.

Just a quick look and for essentially the same lantern prices were £85, £60, £50, £45, £40, and one honest John had it at £14.5 with tracking.

I know postage is expensive but £85, give me a break.

I have 4 different address on my eBay account, U.S., UK, Australia and NZ. Before I bid I choose the address I want to be my "primary" address. The vendor shouldn't care if you address match PayPal or not. as long as they get paid. Either way you can let them know when you contact them via email etc

How does that help with the cost of postage from the UK to NZ?

I have no clue why the quote function is working like it is as above. It looks fine when I do it but it comes out wrong once posted.

I was having trouble with the quote function as well. I was responding to

"I'm thinking that my greatest challenge is going to be asking the vendor to ship to an address that isn't my verified PayPal address!"

Other than that it doesn't help with shipping costs at all, but it does enable me to bid on items that won't ship to NZ. As I have other addresses that can be used

    Ah, gotcha.

That is actually a plan of attack I may be implementing.

It's because you have a stray '[/quote}' at the end of what you've written - I've had to change the last square bracket to a curly one to get the code to show on-screen. Hope that helps...

Edit: - or at least, 'had' a stray quote - you now seem to have deleted the post in question!

Thanks for that David. When it first happened I went to look for anything amiss but couldn't see anything.

I suspect Christer or Ross have fixed it.

Well you could ask your shipping partner to bid for you and if successful you transfer the money to their account and they then pay for it.
