Hi all here is a 246 pork pie I just finished. I own 2 bug screens. No problem for the top screen installed in the burner But I wonder where should be installed the bottom screen ? It can be monted in the glass or under the glass Nothing is very perfect to my eyes
Outside the glass and under it so that it can be removed easily should you need to re-light the lantern quickly after pricking. Also, it has two halves held together by a spring arrangement to hold it up clipped to the vapouriser. This wouldn't be needed if it was intended to go inside the glass...
thanks David I thought it was under the glass, but ... I know the screen you are talking about, but this one is impossible to remove, because it is slipped on the generator before the burner top, and my problem is that there nothing to hold it in contact with the glass.
Ah, now that's different, Michel - I'm not sure I've seen that insect shield previously. Having said that, I've not seen very many at all given our crappy summer weather ( ) isn't conducive to the growth of large insects and such so the shields were mainly fitted to export models. How do you prime that lantern with the deep globe and the insect shield fitted outside? - I see your dilemma...
Here is some of mine http://0flo.com/index.php?posts/42298 Posts: 246 Registered on 03-01-13 User Options 21-07-14 04:38 AM - Post#45192 Here is some pictures of Tilley bug guards These 2 are new old stock that fit in the burner head ones dome or can use the flat one . Thats all I could find here Bob . Next ones fit below the glass. First one slides on the generator first type ? second one opens up spring loaded second type ? third one slides also latest type
Hello Michel, That bug screen does not work with the 171 globe, it was made to use with the 182 globe as on the 200cp burner on a X410 export lamp. Perhaps that is why it isn't seen very often in the UK. As you can see there is much more room to move it down for the preheater to be installed. Your example is simply missing the spring that holds it to the vaporizer.
... but that's the one that Tilley has been selling over the last couple of years. By the way, their website "is closed for maintenance" at the moment...
Michel, I had the same problem even with the spring clip - no room for the pre-heater . My solution was to put the bug screen the other way up from the way you have shown in your pictures (with the spring clip to hold it) and slide it up as far as possible under the glass, this gave just enough room for the pre-heater even with the old style glass
Michel, fit the screen as John says but slide it DOWN to give room for the pre-heater. Slide it back up after the lantern is lit. If you pre-heat with the shield up against the glass, the shield conducts heat to the glass, this won't do much harm to the glass but it takes heat AWAY from the vapouriser. Henry.
