Hi all here is my new challenge. A circa 1920/25 table lamp from Guenet & Abbat, Paris (brand Succès) I think the lamp is complet except for a foot under the fount I had dismantled the fount and the lyre. The gasoline line was broken at the jonction with the lyre. Not really a problem, I had to solder another one. The burner is the 101 Succès I have already have presented here: http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/7193 Tomorrow ; the manometer which is turning on his fitting. Impossible to unscrew it. I'll have to open the bottom of the fount to see the problem i also have to solder the foot. I have cannibalized a wreck.
Hi James I was not the winner. But the winner did not accept to pay, so I was in possibility to negociate the price with the seller, but yes not very economic ;-(
The manometer was impossible to unscrew because the solder inside the fount was broken. Not other solution except to open the bottom in order to resolder the fixing. it allowed me to repair the inflate valve and to resolder the little foot. But horror ! while I was soldering, the flame just came during half a second to lick the manometer, and I have burned the dial. Grrrrrrrr
Too late now but couldn't you have unsoldered the base plate and removed it that way? Or is it held in with a rolled lip?
james, yes it was held in with a rolled lip, therefore impossible to unscrew. I could have turned it during hours. It was also impossible to unscrew by the inside because there was not enough space to tighten strongly the "rolling part" with a plier, so I had to resolder in place. and the accident happened !!
here is the fount with the new epoxy resin. A little paint is still needed. I have fitted the steel parts which have been painted with heat resisting paint and baked in the oven. The burner received a ceramic holder for the mantle. Unfortunately, the mantle have not resisted to the necessary work to adapt the ceramic. Not really a problem, i'll tie a modern soft mantle. here is the old lady with a gas glass. I have to wait a little to do the gasoline test, because the resin must be very hard before the filling.
Today, the gasoline test : inflating with the bicycle pump but reading the manometer, i have still some leaks, the pressure falls softly. Hum ..The bath gives me the problem ; a very small crack in the flank of the fount. A little tin solder solved the problem and here is the light.
