    Our Scouts were busy tonight...
all of these have been lit by the scouts themselves (and a couple of cubs). They all enjoyed it and want to do it again which is encouraging! Apart from the fire extinguisher in the background there are a variety of lamps you may like to name including an "odd one out"

What's that between the Anchor and the Tilley X246B?

Well spotted Tony, it is indeed a gassie (camping gaz)
The "wickiecr*ps" were lit by the cubs as their introduction to lamps as occasionally a pressure lamp can be a bit daunting to an 8 year old. We find these lamps are also useful for wide games and it's not too much of a drama if they get hammered. The main idea is to get the cubs confident in using lamps and it works well. The Scouts are introduced to pressure lamps and once they are confident in using them I am never short of volunteers to light them!

Now I've got me morning eyes in (or maybe it's just sunlight!), I see there's a Bialaddin 310 in there, too...

Edit: Oh yes, and something very suspicious directly behind the Anchor! :p

Interesting construction of the walls, BTW... :-k

This is an old priest house adjacent to the hurch hall where the scouts meet. It dates from 1280 andis flint and stone construction.

Hopefully I won't get blackballed from CPL for having a C*mping g*z lamp amongst the others! :D/ :D/

Nah, surely not! They're lamps and there's pressure involved. OK, 'classic' is maybe a bit moot but no-one's ever come up with a satisfactory definition of the word as applied here to lamps i.e. one agreed by all, or even a majority.

In my view, any gassie that uses an obsolete cartridge, automatically has 'classic' status. Otherwise, any gassie that's over a certain age (25 years?) is classic.

Now that might not be a popular view, but knowing CPL, most members won't give a toss and almost certainly no-one will be bothered to go so far as to post a response to it. As they say, watch this space (but don't hold your breath)... :)

We only had gas lamps when I was in scouts (Primus lamps that screwed onto a refillable bottle) but even they were popular to be allowed to light. Well anythng involving fire was popular. :)

Now how can anyone resist an invitation like that from David. Seeing that gas lamps can be over 60 years old they must be classic in some sense of the word. They are even starting to get higher prices on the various auction sites. Even though, they are not the focus of this forum. :)

As far as the "gassie" is concerned I couldn't really go wrong for 50p......
The best thing for me is that all our lamps are "working" lamps and our scouts like using them.

Nowhere. But like you have already mentioned, this topic has been debated a lot in the past with no consensus on the subject. Personally I have nothing against gas appliances, but letting them into the forum (apart from the open forum) would end up with the whole lot being too crowded. Limiting it to pressure lamps where you can pour fuel into the tank through a funnel is good enough for me. Well that's my 2c worth. :)

Well, those gravity lamps managed to sneak in without overcrowding the forums, so on that basis just about anything could find a home here. I'm not advocating that of course, but someone decided to make an exception for whatever reason... =; [-X

No one going to mention the best lamp there ;) Isn't that a chrome Bialaddin 310 right in the middle...

I've not seen a green 246B before, is that a respray?

Personally I like the hotblast wick lamps...

The Green X246B was my first go at a respray in "scout (mondeo!)green and I hope to add a scout symbol at one point. The Bialaddin 310 is my baby, and was my first lamp.I successfully repaired her leaking bottom and she is still my favourite!

I also have a wickie crap, but in this case it is a railway brake van lamp so I am happy to own it.

Yeah, promise you won't tell anyone but I've a couple of wickie-crap lamps as well. :-$ ;)

I bought one (an Aladdin 21 or something) unused and unassembled from a charity shop and the other (a brass Lucas car lamp) was given to me by a friend when she was clearing her deceased mother's house.

So, further passable excuses for owning wickie-crap lamps:-
    #3 - railway heritage
    #4 - charity
    #5 - sentimental reasons...

    ;)
