I read one post here long time ago saying that Optimus 821 is the first Optimus lantern which was made in 1930 only. And the design was from Petromax 821 at the same time. From 1931, Optimus changed its model number to 200 with minor modifications and had various 200 serial models after then. If so, 821 should be all 200's grandfather
Hi morphia, let me start by saying what a lovely looking lantern, I have a question, I have a first generation 200 which looks identical apart from one piece, directly to the right of spirit burner pre heater tray there is a small tube with what looks like a hole in the middle of it, what is it an where was it on lantern? Gozzy.
I think Nils said that the transition to 200 was made in 1931, so the 821 could also be a 1931 if i understand it correctly. This is a very rare lantern, so you are to be congratulated. And it seems to be in good shape too.
Thanks for your correction, Christer. So 821 production last for one year from 1930 to 1931. The condition and shape is quite good, it can be lighted up easily after replacing gasket and washer.
