This belongs to a friend of mine. He thinks it is Polish. Would love to know a bit more about it. So If anyone can shed some light that would be great.....oh and despite its look it is actually a Wilkie!!! I know David LOOOOVES Wick lanterns!!

I have no clue whom made it but it's quite an awesome looking lamp.

Put some arms and legs on it and it would look comfortable an a 50's Sci-Fi flick.

That modell/serial plate unreadable? Looks almost like a bomb :)

But the clamp/screw design looks like maritime..

My guess would be that it's some kind of miners lamp...

Gneiss, I can't see anything that would slow the flame front so I doubt it's a mining (flame safety) lamp. It is pretty heavy duty though!

If you look through the middle hole in the top there is at least another layer in there...

Didn't you know David. David Wilkie used to swim by lantern light.....

I didn't think of a miners lamp...could be. I'm going to try and get some more detail photos

Looks a bit heavy for a miners lamp. Some were carbide (open flame) where no 'firedamp' or methane was present. Some Scottish pits were like that, but most latterly battery powered - and mostly worn on the head.

That beast does have a maritime look about it. Anchor lights were 360° lights and mostly oil wick lamps, but that one doesn't look like it would ride a mast securely - so something else maybe.

Military - railway? It looks big - light-house?

Ask at the Q&A page of the Guild. I'm not sure if the address is www.lampguild.org but you can check it on the links section on this page.
Very nice lanter, by the way.

Here's a shot of the label I can make out what is possibly a date. Either 1980 or 1950 or its just a numbering system. And possibly makers name FAMO.....something something

    Definitely "Made in Poland"...

And looking at the letter spacing and the rectangle for the logo, it may fit only one letter, such as FAMOS...
