I'm replacing the broken Mantle and rebuilding the burner with a rebuild kit. Had to replace the leather, as it was stuck inside the pump and fell apart when I tried to work the pump. I needed a lighting torch and funnel and replacing all the seals and o-rings, as well.

I wish I had known you had the parts! We coulda helped each other out.

Could use a Draft Shield. Can you help me out with locating one?

What kind of fuel do you use?

    Any Pics of your R55's?

Can't wait to fire it up! I understand they throw a ton of heat!

I'd be VERY interested in the Pre-heater cup!

Have already ordered the other parts from BaseCamp UK.

Could use a Draft Shield though! Saw one in one of your Youtube videos and you mentioned you have a source? Can you help me out?

I've watched that video!!!! Multiple times, too! I'm hooked!

    Thanks!

Try using an inverted beer can with the drinking end removed and a large hole at the other (now top) end. Cut a slot 3/4 of the way up the side to clear the air-intake. Use some stiff wire to fashion a U-shaped handle and poke it through two pairs of small holes at the top end of the can.

For an 'ersatz' preheater cup, get another beer can with a domed base and cut off the bottom end about 1/4" up the side. Cut a small hole in the base to clear the vapouriser stem. Slide the base down the vapouriser. You can put a ring of 'something' - rope or whatever - in the base but it's not necessary. Add priming alcohol and light.

Either of these 'wheezes' will also allow you to light a heater at camp when you've forgotten to bring the proper articles. Don't ask me how I know...

    Great suggestion from David.

I used similar and modified a paint spray-tin.
Hole-saw the top and bottom out, 20mm holesaw for the burner inlet and slit upto it with a grinder. Made my wire handle out of a length of 1.6mm gas welding rod. Works lovely!

You've all got me thinking now! I'm sure I can make one from something. I'll need some dimensions for the project, though. What diameter should the cylinder be ideally? Also, how tall should it be and how long should the "slot" be?

I very much appreciate everyone's help! You guys are great!

    Thanks,
    Stovost

    We aim to please.

I might have to throw mine in the bin and make one up out of a baked bean can just to be hip.

Ha-ha, Ray - that was the (now, infamous) weekend when Trevor and I shared a bedroom. Possibly that explains Trevor's very pale appearance, his wistful expression and the large mug of hot, sweet tea he needed to recover from the ordeal... ;)

That was the weekend of trying to get this to burn correctly, hence the need for a DIY windshield.

I can't remember ever seeing the top of my head before!

God made very few perfect heads - the rest he covered with hair. According to Trevor, anyway... ;)

I have been very restrained in this thread.
On CCS David is well known for his flare-ups (all types).
I posted a nice image of his rare stove thingy.
However, the digs at me have prompted me to show what really happened with that stove. :D

 =; C'mon Trevor - you know that was just another posed flare-up for you to post here or on CCS... [-X

You even had that special filter on your camera lens to make my hair look much greyer than it actually is...
