Here is a nice little Coleman Scout made in Australia. In the pictures below it is fitted with an Austramax globe. Fitted with a "Fukushima" mantle: Running in daylight: An easy fettle. There are manufacturing similarities to the Austramax. Where do you get the Coleman Globe for this jobbie? Cheers Tony
I've actually found the globe before at a local camping store in Bundaberg, so you never know you're luck. Of course they didn't have any last time I looked. Otherwise try the usual suppliers of kero stuff or failing that from Old Coleman Parts in the states.
Thanks, Trevor. It's only 58 years old, though (8/57 - see third photo from top). The 1936 date is a date relating to the license agreement with Coleman Canada. It appears on other Coleman products manufactured in Australia. Now, as I said above, there are very close similarities between this lantern and the Austramax - especially the Austramax 2/200. The nozzle on the Austramax 2/200 that I recently posted in the Reference Gallery is the same as this 249; the Austramax globe is the same size as the globe on the Coleman 242 I posted in the Reference Gallery. I think I'll pull out these lamps and do some phot-comparisons over the weekend. Cheers Tony
Hi Tony, If you need a globe for the 249, I have one here in the States that I could send you. Shipping might be a bit steep though, but if you need some other items we could ship it all at one time. Send me a PM if interested. Dan
Here are some extra pics of the generator etc. The shaped nut to hold the cage etc on to the tank: Cheers Tony
Hi Tony, thanks for the correction. I must have still had my stove hat on. I was skim-reading and just did the math on a date I saw. If I had thought a bit more I would have realised that this style of lantern was much younger than 79 years. If I remember rightly it was produced sometime in the late 1940s and up to about 1960. I don't know the exact dates, especially those for the Australian production, but I am sure someone will put me right.
I like these lanterns, particularly the ones made outside North America - I'm sure I've an Aussie and a couple of English ones around here somewhere...
I can't remember where they came from, Tony - it was so many moons ago - but almost certainly via eBay. The Aussie one probably was from down under, which I could afford to do in those giddy days when I first began collecting... The Old Dart? - have you been on the Bundaberg again, Blue...
