Hi, Just putting back together my BR 49 and am missing one part. Its the part that screws on to the top section of the pre-lighter. I believe this is the same as the control cock wheel i.e a threaded bakelite knob with the words Tilley embossed. Does anyone have suggestion where to get one of these from without purchasing a complete control cock for only the knob/wheel?
Try The Base Camp. There are also brass ones available on line. Many people here would advise you to throw the pre-heater away, plug the hole, and use it with metho to pre-heat. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony, I have tried base camp - no luck! I do understand what people say about the pre-heater but personally I like how this makes the lamp more unique. After a few tests it does work well with perhaps a little sooting of the mantle which soon burns off when running.
I'm not sure if you're getting confused with the blowlamp-type preheater on the X359, Tony. This should be the other type of paraffin pre-heater with the curly-wurly wick and I find they work reasonably well if you follow the instructions and are patient with them. Unless it's me getting confused, of course - a picture would have helped. I think it's the barrel-type knob that's needed - for example:- http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4707 - one of which can simply be unscrewed from a donor control cock and then screwed onto the BR49 - job done!
Hi Sean, If you send me a private message with your address I will post you a old style Tilley Bakelite Knob for your lamp. Cheers, Jim
