Hi, Just putting back together my BR 49 and am missing one part. Its the part that screws on to the top section of the pre-lighter. I believe this is the same as the control cock wheel i.e a threaded bakelite knob with the words Tilley embossed.

Does anyone have suggestion where to get one of these from without purchasing a complete control cock for only the knob/wheel?

Try The Base Camp. There are also brass ones available on line.

Many people here would advise you to throw the pre-heater away, plug the hole, and use it with metho to pre-heat.

    Cheers

Thanks Tony, I have tried base camp - no luck!

I do understand what people say about the pre-heater but personally I like how this makes the lamp more unique. After a few tests it does work well with perhaps a little sooting of the mantle which soon burns off when running.

Is the bakelite knob the flattish shaped one or the more cone shaped one?

I'm not sure if you're getting confused with the blowlamp-type preheater on the X359, Tony. This should be the other type of paraffin pre-heater with the curly-wurly wick and I find they work reasonably well if you follow the instructions and are patient with them. Unless it's me getting confused, of course - a picture would have helped.

I think it's the barrel-type knob that's needed - for example:- http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4707 - one of which can simply be unscrewed from a donor control cock and then screwed onto the BR49 - job done!

    Hi Sean,
If you send me a private message with your address I will post you a old style Tilley Bakelite Knob for your lamp.

    Cheers,
