Check that none of the air intakes have become blocked. Give the burner a good blow through and clean. Check that it is all tight, but go not use tools on it...

Failing that, assuming you are preheating it enough and not putting to much pressure in initially, about the only thing left is the vapouriser.

It might seem odd that this has happened suddenly after a mantle change but I've got a sneaking suspicion that mantles, burners and vapourisers somehow work together as a team. Changing one of them sometimes seems to upset things for a while until they become 'used' to each other again.

Completely non-scientific but I've seen it happen a few times and it's my best explanation so far...

I'm awaiting Jean's response to your comment, but she is probably too polite to put it in writing.

I'm sure my spouse would say that she has to put up with all my lamp (and other) nonsense...

Tony, you beat me to it! Boys, just treat your woman (or women) with as much care and consideration as you give your lamps and you won't go far wrong.

Copy all that, but is there a control for the volume?

Vapourisors can enlarge and allow too much fuel through the jet without being readily visible to the naked eye, that will give flames from a mantle. Glad it's sorted.
