Each to their own, for sure. If I found one for $200 - $250 (he does have make offer) I'd buy it. Having said that, that FL6 has been on ebay for sometime. Prices for Tilley in America must be much lower than here in Australia as I doubt that FL6 would last long on, at that price, on ebay .au
I've paid more for the parts to restore my Tilley R55 and Tilley R1A, than I did for the Units themselves, and they were virtually complete when purchased!
Paying as little as you can will get no arguments from me. Obviously that is what you, I and most do. The FL6 is a big unit. Waiting for one to come up for $20 or $30 might be a long, long wait. I, overnight, bought a light for US$114. That is about AU$150 then I have to pay postage. I don't like paying that sort of money. I weigh up the good with the bad. The light was nearly complete, minus the shade. It is in terrific condition. I have not seen another for sale and I may not have seen another for a long time and if I did, it probably wouldn't be in this lights condition. To be honest, I'm not even sure the brand of the light though I think it's Coleman. I can't find another like it to compare with. Not being able to find another light anywhere to compare it with was an indicator that the light, at that price and condition, was money well spent. I actually think even with postage, I got the light cheap. You may need to weigh up the good with the bad at times too. The fact that you had to ask for leads should tell you, you may not see another FL6 in America for that price in a long time. I don't think they are all that common in America but others would know better than I.
Aha. I see. I guess it must have been mentioned in another post then, that it was a floodlight like e.g. an FL6 that was wanted since you knew about it. I might have read that topic, but can't say that I remember it.
No, I hadn't seen it written elsewhere. I just assumed he meant an FL6, I may have assumed wrong. I know the difference, I thought he didn't. From his previous posts he has only just got into lamps so I didn't really think he was looking for an SL1 or Big Bertha. Only he can answer that, I suppose.
Tilley floodlights do turn up in the USA., and some collectors have found them at flea markets etc., and they have been cheap.
Heaters look great! Glad to be of service I'll likely be bringing mine up from the basement to use in the garage. I like the way that I can aim the R55 at my butt when I'm working at the vise! Thanks, All! Being new to all this, please forgive my bumblings with the terminology? The "Flood" Light, (see how quickly I learned?) doesn't have to be a Tilley either. Just want one of those things! What other brands/models are there?
Am I to believe then, that there are Searchlights, as well as, Floodlights and that the eBay link was for a Flood and not Searchlight then? Or, am I just totally confused and confusing you guys, as well? Can someone give me the various Brands and Model numbers then?
Well, there are FL1 to FL6 floodlight projectors and SL1 (and other) searchlight projectors. It was an FL6 floodlight projector in the auction listing. The essential difference is that floodlights provide a general, wide area of illumination over no great distance - i.e. they flood the area with light. On the other hand, the searchlights provide a long, narrow beam of light which is either parallel or conical, so they can be used to search for things at a distance. I suppose it is a similar situation to fog-lights and spotlights on a car. Other examples are floodlights at sports venues and searchlights used during wartime...
Steve, if you can find a CH-1 conversion head (or equivalent lamp top) for your R-55, you'll have your floodlight! I used mine while working on a shop in my barn. The sweet side of it is that you get just as much heat with the added benefit of a warm tush.

Stovost To see examples in the Tilley range look up the Lamp Reference Gallery -Great Britain -Tilley -Outdoor Suspension Industrial and look at the models David gave then Big Bertha that he forgot. A day or more can be spent looking at the huge variety of lamps / lanterns from all over and information put here for all to view.

WOW! So that's where you guys have been keeping them! HOLY COW! You're right, it's gonna take me days (daze) to see all those examples! SWEET! And I thought my Motorcycle was the only "Bertha" for me! This is a pic of her carring home my R55 on her back. It's inside that plastic bag! Over 40 year old Pressure Heater and I'll bet it was it's first ride on a Motorcycle! Over 65 miles that day. too!
the FL-6 on the bay is not worth the money to seller wants for it as its missing the most important part of the burner plus no pump -it would make a great door stopper
