I was recently given what I assume is a Coleman lamp, but I can't find it in the gallery or elsewhere...

The label says "Gasoline Lantern AFC". No idea what the AFC is a reference to, a reseller perhaps?

The glass is Coleman, but of course it may not be the original glass. Unfortunately it's cracked so will require replacement.

I've been told it was converted to paraffin and it has been fitted with a spirit cup, but I've also been told it doesn't run.

Go to the search function on the right of this page... There are AFC lamps listed on this site.

    Cheers

So it's actually a manufacturer and not just a rebadged Coleman....

    Well you live and learn!

Yes AFC model 1022 pretty much a copy of a Coleman 220 type. 300cp gasoline lantern. Not the greatest quality perhaps but good enough. ::Neil::

It was made by Union Metal Ltd in British Hong Kong and appears with a lot of different names, AFC/Ash Flash in the main, but Roddy and Campway also come to mind.

I have one, that's in a little better shape, it's also been converted to kerosene and it works well, but it does needs a lot of preheating.

I have been told there is a right way and a wrong way to convert it to Kerosene.

The right way is to add a preheater cup and remove the bung which resides in one of the air tubes, the wrong way is to change the generator.

Mine has had the bung removed.

There's a bit of troubleshooting information on the Coleman Collectors Forum.

Thanks again for the info...

I have a few lamps ahead of this but I might give it a quick clean and try to fire it up out of curiosity.

I was told it runns too hot, but I'm not sure exactly what was meant by that.

It's definitely looking good so far. Next stop, mantles!
