While looking at a well known website I noticed the quantity and variety of Korean reproduction and 'special' parts has ballooned recently. There are some very odd and some very interesting things as well as those that will prove useful, but after seeing one particular Tilley item (321960372231) I wonder if we are not far from seeing complete reproductions of some very rare lamps. {admin added image - item number will expire}
I also noticed that some rare/hard to source parts are starting to get made in Korea as well. In fact one of the generators for my PL-53 was made there. Works like a charm and just takes longer to heat up as it was machined steel of what seems thicker variety than Tilley made. I found it to be very steady running and the jet/pricker for it is much more precisely made and should last a long time. Good on these folks for taking to the restoration of the lamps and providing parts.
I've bought a few things from the same place and have been very pleased with the service and the product. Tony
Recently I bought a shade for my 100cp Phoebus 615 like this one, the colour matches exactly, very good craftmanship. A bit later I bought some enamel hoods in black and red as relacements for my Hasag lanterns. They are exact copies of the originals. IMHO the prices for these items are reasonable and they also have a very good quality.
hhm, 29 US dollars for a tilley pre heater clamp ? It is good that arre parts are made but when I see a table lamp conversion kit I wonder when we will see frauds popping up.
Thats where Julian Shaw and his goods come in handy. Some of the kevlar wicks coupled with the brass cup that Lovelantern makes fits the bill quite well. It may not be "period correct" but can make life easier.
That was the point I was trying to make. I agree that these are generally very useful precision made parts, but the Harp for a KL80 to me represents a bit more than just a part and feels a step closer to the production of more significant items and perhaps whole lamps.
Could someone post the link to the Korian website ? If it's Joulian Shaw I have it but think he is somewhere else. Cheers Rob
Thanks Tony! Not sure why we can't say the source out loud. Everything is BIN so no competition issues.
There's absolutely no reason to not mention stores that just sell things for a fixed price. E.g this South Korean seller who has many reproduced items.
I agree Christer, but this seller seems to have those 'more desirable' components that CPL/CCS members have found difficult to source , like the Radius SRV washer/shim, support tubes, ceramic sleeves etc etc etc almost like the sellers a member/members/follower All good in my eyes their giving us lot what we need to keep our stuff running
Absolutely. Not to forget the notorious Radius 119 collar, which so often suffer from stress cracks. I'm sure these replicas are appreciated by many collectors. Personally I just solder them closed again. I wouldn't stand paying more for a new collar than I would for the entire lantern.

Hi All I've dabbled with 2 Korean suppliers and from both I have received prompt delivery, the items were very well made and fit for their purpose with a benefit of being close to the original, excepting the generators that is. As for authenticity, I guess it's a choice of getting or not getting a lamp finished fettled and working than not. I for one, if original parts are not available or financially unviable, would prefer to fettle and have a working representation of the original. Each to their own, that's what makes life interesting. Cheers Peter
With some of the repro stuff coming out we & future collectors are going to have to be on the ball not to pay good money for what we may think is excellent vintage items that are actually a combo of old & repro. The vinyl decals are easy enough to spot but not so much the hardware.
I have no problem with reproduction service parts or small reproduction parts that are not easily available. I've used both in my lamps and stoves when I haven't been able to find an originals. While the lamp I posted is clearly a reproduction that doesn't pass itself off as an original, it seems like another step towards substantial parts, like tanks and then lamps being produced that are indistinguishable from the real thing. Counterfeits already come from India and Thailand, not all are easy to spot, and I have a feeling those coming from Korea and Taiwan will be very hard to spot indeed. HD
It's how a subsequent buyer may use & describe them that is more of a concern to me. The Genie is already out of the bottle.
