This lantern was found in South Africa and is in Gerhard de Villiers collection.
Unfortunately it is missing its generator.

Hmm, great lantern but what a shame about the missing vapouriser.

I though that it looked vaguely 'Petromax' and I see from looking at images of Neil's lantern that it has a vapouriser with a Preston loop. That could be difficult to replace - unless a P'max one fits... [-o<

Yes it is a pity but I think the parts can be made or adapted from Petromax bits. These are a 500cp lantern so it will have to be a P'Max 500 generator with an eccentric block and pricker rod. You might need to extend the eccentric as the Coleman one is quite long but a cut and shut job with a piece of brass bar should sort that. The pricker control spindle for 139A is pretty much the same as on a lot of Coleman lamps with just a spindle with a loop at the end. Here is an image of Graeme Cameron's 239A which shows the pricker control end. I should think the part from any Coleman lantern could be adapted to fit and work.

This next image is the pricker rod and eccentric from my 240 if you look at the parts list you will see these are the same parts for both 239A and 240. The pricker control spindle will be the same as a 239A but the 240 has a control wheel instead of the bent wire.

Hi Mackburner, do you happen to have a photo of that lantern showing how the generator is attached to the control valve (inside the collar)?
    Cheers

No I don't. I can show you both 238A and 240 but they are different so they won't help much. I got a decent set of images from Graeme but he did not give me a shot under the globe base rest. Has to be a cranked block with a vertical generator fitter and a horizontal pricker fitter thread. ::Neil::

Mackburner, do you have Graeme's contact details by any chance, that you could send through on a private posting?

Phil just aked me that and sorry but no I don't however I believe it will be the same valve and pricker arrangement as 238A and as far as I know there is one of those in SA owned by Piet Van Der Walt. I don't have details for him either but maybe someone in the SA forum will know him. ::Neil::
