Hi I'm new to the art of lamp fettling and have completed a number of fettling projects, mostly Tilley storm lanterns.
I have come up with a sticky one ........
I have a Tilley X246 built around 1950 to 1952, dates are very approximate, and I want to replace the gland washer/seal for the control cock. My problem is removing the control knob. The control knob is phyisically different to the control knobs used on the X246A and the X246B models, these are larger and push on to the shaft keying into the end of the knob.
Before I force, mangle, break or disfigure the control knob, can anyone help me with the following:
    1. Is the control knob of the X246 simply pushed onto the control cock's shaft?
    2. If not, how do I remove the knob in one piece?
    Cheers

Hi Pete, welcome to the forum.
From your description you have one of these below.
I use a pair of pliers and gently tweak a bit one side and then the other.

You will find a small clip either still on the shaft or sitting inside the knob, you will need that.

Thanks Rangie for that, just what I needed to know. I'm glad I didn't force it.

    Cheers

    Thanks Anthony

This type of knob you have shown is similar to the used on my X246A and X246B. The one I'm having an issue with is of the earlier type. Rangie has kindly answered and solved my dilemma.

Thanks for your reply and welcome

    Cheers

    Peter
