Hello Abes, Base camp sell replacement wire mantles (part 1126): Tilley lamp spares Also eBay: TILLEY RADIATOR WIRE MANTLE TILLEY LAMP MANTLE SPARE SERVICE KIT PARTS | eBay You can also make one out of stainless steel mesh e.g. from a sieve: Makeshift Wire Mantle For Tilley Radiators If you do this make sure it is stainless steel and not plated steel as otherwise it will disintegrate. Not sure where you can get a windshield, but it is only needed if lighting outdoors. James.
Many thanks feller for the speedy reply will give both the links a gander, wont be lighting it outdoors so if only needed for that I shall just bide my time till one comes up, thanks again for the help much appriciated
Working in a scrap yard it still amazes what people throw away though as the saying goes whats one mans rubbish is another mans treasure, have also acquired a couple of I think there called guardmans tilley lamps too lol
On late 1950s and after Tilleys there is a date stamp, usually on the bottom of the tank, but in some of the earliest dating, on the side of the tank. It will be a series of numbers and letters (usually). The last two numbers are the year. Have a look and Se if you can find a date code. Ant questions, get back to us, and/or post a photo. Cheers Tony
Ps: What country do you come from? There are a few places called "Ringwood" around the world. Cheers Tony
Nice one! However, I have found that lighting either the R1, the R46 or the Pig Lamp that the 'windshield' makes ignition quicker and surer. It really tunnels the burning maths flame up the vapouriser. Two soaks of the lighter in meths, and away you go ever time!
