Can anyone help me identify this lantern? It is stamped on the bottom Model 157, and generator T44; by the Sunshine logo it says Made in Canada, and the number stamps are 2 and 48. I have been looking around websites, but not found any reference to those numbers.

At the top, it has a screw-in hook about a foot long. It's missing the globe and the two mantles (which look small), but otherwise seems to be in good condition.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Ron

Not sure what you are asking for here because you have told us what it is already. A Coleman model 157 made in Canada Feb 1948. I can tell you it is a 300 cp gasoline Instant-Lite lamp which is normally fitted to take a glass globe and a parchment type shade. You can use either Coleman #20 or #21 mantles on it. Probably be better with #21s as they are easier to find. ::Neil::

Ron Not knowing where you reside makes it harder. The Amish make an adapter that holds a standard issue cheapy Coleman globe. The original #335 globe is so long gone all the people that made it are probably on the wrong side of the grass. They can still be found on Ebay from time to time. Dan

    Hello Ron, welcome aboard!

Ebay is probably the best place to find them, but they do turn up in local auctions and in junk/antique shops.

I have even found them attached to old town gas lights and caravan (trailer) propane lights, Jeff.

Thanks - I'll watch for one. I'm in Ontario, a couple of hours north of Toronto. We do have some Amish communities here, though don't have any connections there.

    Welcome Ron!
Very nice Lamp - a good find!

The model was known as the "Sunshine" no. 157 and a good depiction of one can be seen at this wonderful website:

A globe and shade can still be found - but you'll have to hunt for them. Start by watching Ebay or some such site, as has been suggested. Then, find out who the local antique merchants are in your area, and attend their antique shows, usually every couple of months apart. Sometimes they are held in malls, hotel banquet rooms, or some such venue area. It should be an interesting hunt! Have faith, they're out there. Once again, welcome, and thank you very much for your post... neighbor!

    Hi Chris:

Thanks for the info and the link to an amazing website. One dumb question (I'm new at this) - I note the website refers to gasoline/kerosene pressure lamps - if and when I get this one functional, can I burn white gas in it, or do I need to use other fuel?

    cheers from snowy Ontario.

Ron Right in Ontario is Elmer Kuepfer, 560 Bervie Sideroad RR4 Kincardine Ontario Canada N2Z2X5 Ph# 519-395-3593 There's your Amish connection. Elmer has a large Coleman business and is very knowledgable. He is a long time International Coleman Collectors Club member. I deal with him all the time. The 157 was Coleman fuel the 157X was kero. with a little fiddling they can be converted. Dan
