This is a Geniol 829 B 500HK (829 Rapid) I have had for some time now. I was thinking that should be in the reference gallery because there is no pictures of any of this version there. I do not know when or where it is manufactured but I should guess it is made in Portugal by Hipolito somewhere in the 80's or 90's. It has a serial number under the tank that is 2248. It seems not to be a date code like Petromax and the Chinese made lamps has a 6 digit code. Michael
Nice Lamp I have one like it that I am going to post up. Found in the back of my Grandfather's garage. No one knows where it came from or anything about it as well. Mine appears to be nickel plated brass and has a four digit serial number.
Very nice lamp Michael. Is it easy to clean? The surface looks as if they could be at bit difficult, but at the same time the surface gives a awesome look. Jättesnyg lamp Claus C
yep, I found the key on this website: Here we have the key for the four digit numbers in the tank bottom: 1523 will be for the 60ties: 15th week, 1962, the 3ht day of the week. It looks as if the key only is valid for the years 1960 through 1969.
Claus, the surface is quite smooth but little more coarse than the normal nickel plated one. To me it is easy to clean. I have been told that it is nickel plate that has been sand blasted to this finish. Regarding the date code, I recently spoke with a German gentleman that said that he had talked with somebody that had worked at Petromax in Altena and he had said that the four digit code was not a date code, only a plant serial number. He also claimed the Altena production to have been stopped in 1962. Not 1969-1970 that every one else says. What is true or not true I do not know. I have a Petromax 828 with the number 0721 that should mean 14 February 1966 (Valentine's Day). The box is marked 1-66 so it is in any case made in 1966 regardless if the code is a date code or not. I have also a 828 made earlier but without the four digit code. I just for a few days ago when I looked more closely in a better light discovered that it has a scratched date which is 3/60. That means that the four digit stamp came later than March 1960. Michael
This was made in Germany (or West Germany if made prior to reunification). The numbers above the word "Bund" on the side plate are a NATO Stock Number. The 5th and 6th digits (in this case '12') show the country of manufacture - Link Terry
