When I started to fettle this I had a dilemma. Paint or not repaint?
Finally I decided to keep it in original finish, I believe it is impossible to get the right crackled one. And as the fount is zink plated there is no risk for rust. Only the clean steel parts has been repainted in black.
All that is left is to make a reproduction guard for it.
Why do they always get lost? I think more than 50% of all heaters lacks that part.

    Hi Bo,

I have one of these which has never been fired and includes the guard. If you need detailed dimensions, just let me know.

If that wasn't rhetorical, I'd say simply because they're designed to be easily removable, without using tools, for servicing and replacing parts.

By way of illustration, the Tilley RH57 always comes with its guard because it's not removable - it hinges forward to allow access...

Thank you Dan, I would really appreciate that.
It seems to be quite simple so I think I am able to make a reproduction.

    Hi Bo,

I think you are right in that this is one of the easier ones to make.
The steel wire is 0.105" diameter

Let me know if there are any other views or dimensions you'd like.

Many thanks Dan! Great images, I am sure I am able to make a new one by following your instructions.

Have you gotten you Heater running, Bo? I've got the opportunity to obtain one, but I'm hesitant, not knowing anything about them and the unknown availability of parts for it. The Heater appears complete, having its Ceramic Burner, but missing the Wire Guard, as was yours. Are they Kerosene Burners? How do they Light? Any questions I should ask the current owner, regarding the Heater? Can you tell me the Model of the Heater? Thanks for any help you can give me!

Here's a few pics of the Heater:

As per title, model number 6. Fuel is gasoline. I would imagine they are Instant Light but not sure, I'll be taking mine to pieces in the next few days so will be able to examine the fuel system and determine yes or no in respect of the instant light.

As far as I know, the ceramic, generator and cleaning needle are obsolete. My example does not have a cleaning needle and the original gas tip has been swapped out with Coleman (marked Q). That's about all I can tell you at the moment.

Working or not, these heaters are something different and if that floats your boat, go for it.

@Stovost Just had a look at my example and it is NOT instant light, it's match light. A couple of long matches held under the curve at the end of the generator is all that is needed.

Enclosed are some pictures of one running, pretty fun and impressive.
Another collector says the pump assembly design and fount date it to about 1926. Most of the time, the ceramic radiant, or the generator, or the guard is missing. Just got this recently, was sitting for who knows how long outside in the weather. Fortunately it had all the parts.

Threw in the last picture showing it is about the same size as a Coleman poultry lantern; it shows the heater before I cleaned up the aluminum reflector. No deep pockets here, God made many a poor lantern collector. Got the readiglo for $15, the local antique dealer wouldn't go down any more as a woman might re-purpose it. Got the poultry for $30 from another local dealer; and with that may I add, God loves us all. Thanks for looking.

Nice to see one working. Mine is missing both radiant and guard but I've had a nice flame from the burner.

The flame did get cleaner after a short while, so clean in fact that it didn't show up well in the images I took and looked smaller than it actually was.

    Henry,
Really cool picture, haven't tried it that way. It's nice that you have one that actually runs. I've looked on the web and a lot of them have too many missing parts. Thanks for sharing photo, lee

Until I make a radiant, I have no option. I took the image before I stripped the heater down in order to treat the surface rust inside the fount which I've now done and lined it with POR15 tank sealer, I'm now waiting for it to cure before re-building. Busy with other projects at the moment but will get around to looking for suitable material to make a radiant when time allows.

    Henry.
