The 14th CCS/CPL Annual UK Gathering - Newark

    3-5 June 2016

You are welcome to join us for the annual gathering at Smeatons Lakes, Newark, Nottinghamshire.

    1457816391-newark.jpg

Collectors of stoves, pressure lamps & blowlamps are all welcome. Please bring along some of your collection for display! It is also a great opportunity for swaps & trading with other collectors!

Originally a weekend event, many people now arrive early. The field is booked from the Wednesday at our special rate. Please come along even if it's for the Saturday night.
No need to book but if possible drop me a PT to let me know you're coming so I have a rough idea of numbers.

Cost is £6.50 per night per tent, caravan or campervan. Extra tents & gazebo's housing displays are free.

We look forward to seeing you there!

More info: DO NOT BOOK IN at reception. Please just pop in to reception & tell them you are attending the Classic Camp Stove's rally or the 'lamp & stove rally' & they will likely point you in the right direction. I will collect the pitch fees during the event.

A key-card for the main gate barrier is available for a £5 deposit. If you are arriving after 6pm please park up & walk around to the rally field & borrow someone's card to gain access. If the warden is still about & sees you she may let you in herself but please don't disturb her otherwise. Alternatively, from Thursday give me a ring on the mobile & I will let you in. Email me for tel. number. There is a height restriction barrier which is closed around 8pm, preventing high vans or caravans entering or leaving the site. If it is closed you will need to park up until the following morning. It may be possible to come to some arrangement with the warden so if this is an issue give the site a ring. Normal vehicles are not affected.

The normal rate for the site is £15-17 per night for 2 people with a car. Our discount rally rate of £6.50 per night per tent, caravan or campervan does not include use of the main toilet & shower block. We do have access to the basic mens & womens 'Anglers Toilet' on the site which is just toilet & sink. If you wish to use the showers in the main block by reception there is a fee to pay (£1 I think). The shower block uses a numerical key entry system. In the past some people have paid their fee & passed the number around. This has upset the site manager & as a result you may find they open the door for you rather than giving you the code. If we are trusted again this year please respect the system & pay the fee otherwise it may be difficult to secure the venue or goodwill in future years.

We are also asked to keep dogs on leads & not allow them to foul the rally field - obviously accidents do happen in which case you are respectfully asked to clean up after your dog. The site provide a dog walk area.

There is fishing available on site but it needs to be booked in advance.

There are no hookups on the rally field

TRADERS - For Trade application please contact me by PT.

We will not be able to stay this year. I am planning to be there on the Saturday but I won't be able to bring much. I will bring the Tilley HRH2 and the Pifco table lamp because they are pretty unique. If there is anything else anyone particularly wants to see then let me know please. ::Neil::

Hi all - just heard from our hosts - there is another rally on the same field prior to our gathering. This may affect those of you going down early. They are going to try their best to accommodate you in the right area by roping an area off but you may have to move to the main area once the other rally has finished. We'll have to play it by ear a little bit. Please comply with the sites instructions.

Early's before Friday. You're still ok to go earlier but the rally field will be in use so spots will be more limited until the other rally clears out. They are going to try & rope off an area for us but I can't guarantee it.

Right, I've just spoken to the manager. She wasn't able to give much definite information because she doesn't know how many of the other rally wallahs are turning up and how many are staying for the rest of the week. It's a big rally, though, so if a lot of them are going to turn up for the Bank Holiday weekend, they'll go on the big field and we'll go on another (she said "behind the carp lake") but I've no idea where that field is. She would know the full situation by the Tuesday, 31st May at the latest.

My plan is to phone her on Bank Holiday Monday to see what the score is, pack the car anyway and go down at the earliest possible opportunity. The weather may also be a contributory factor but I isn't re-pitching a 12' Nissen Hut, not for nobody. I think that's the best I can do until anything's decided for definite at their end...

If all else fails, we'll set Dot on them.

I'll be going on the Tuesday, as will Nigel I think so we'll know, if I can get internet I'll let you know where we end up. Don't particularly want to have to take the awning down move and put it back up again, but I'll have to do what I have to do.

Ray and I have re-aligned our plans overnight - well, I have anyway - and we're reporting for duty at Smeaton's Lakes on Thursday. My initial plan was to go today but I've stuff to attend to hanging over from before the weekend. That, and I haven't packed anything yet!

So you and Nigel are 'Pathfinders' for the rest of the squadron. Good luck and be sure to let us know...

Edit: OK, I've just phoned her and it turns out we're in the same field BUT confined to part of it only because the other rally is still there has the major part of it. So, unfortunately, it seems we've got the smaller end ("the paddock", she called it) nearer the office. I hope the other wallahs aren't 'early to bed; early to rise' types - could be interesting if they are...

Perhaps the early arrivals need to report back once they're there and let us know exactly where we are pitching this year... :p

Thanks for the update, doesn't sound like we'll need to move then. Just setting out now, so I'll be there in a couple of hours. [-o<

Edit, just as the rain is starting. ](*,)

Wonder if the 'Paddock' is that bushed off area where the industrial wheelie bins were last year :-k The area you walk through to head out of the main field and head towards the office

Dunno - could be one of three areas as far as I can see:-

    1464690535-rally-field.jpg

The bottom area is too small and barely contained us in 2005, the first time I attended, even extending some way out past the trees towards the main area.

Anyway, it's naffin' freezin' in GL today - heating back on and turned up... ](*,)
