Vapalux 300 - RAF blue?

Having read as much as I can find(!) I've now ended up with a Vapalux 300 with the hood top enameled in RAF blue - not grey and not blue but blue/grey.

The remains of the paint on the tank (not enough to take a sample unfortunately) also appears to be RAF blue. As Plasticote medium grey is too grey (not blue enough) to match this, does anyone have any suggestions as to a current paint that is suitable please?

If not I'm just going to have to "suck it up" and go for something close-ish.

Same problem here, now that I have one of the lamps in my hands, it is that annoying RAF Blue/Grey, the reproduction hood matches well, but rapidal grey does not.

I think I shall ask the guy I bought the hood from if he knows the RAL colour used.

I think the solution may be a spray can colour matched to the hood, the last time I bought one, it was about £15, but that was a while ago.

 

The reproduction hood seller has no idea.

 

Helpful! I'm not going to use Revel hobby paints either - I guess the only thing is to see if a military vehicle/re-enactment group know the correct code.

Have you looked at the Humbrol Model paint range of colours Matt enamel has a larger range.

 

From memory, they are kind of small tins are they not?

 

I think I will just have a spray can made up to match the hood I bought, it's very close to the little enamel that is left on the original hood.

It's not a project at the top of my list anyway, I am getting way ahead of myself.

I was thinking of putting the tanks of the three steel 300s I now have into an electrolytic bath to remove the corrosion, but I will need to check how that might affect the brass fittings.

This laptop is not colour corrected, the display is so bad I gave up, but my Mac and it's display were calibrated a couple of years ago, it may have drifted, but shouldn't be too far off, so I will look at those charts at the weekend.
