Carboard boxes and bubble wrap mainly... although I'm normally transporting about 25 at a time to various shows. It's the only time they get an outing generally...

Look what I found on the interweb : lamp boxes diy
I must admit that there isn't much respons. So guys/girls send in your home made boxes.
Or factory made. Like the hospital Tilley box.

I've seen an old leather Pilot Briefcase used for carrying Optimus 200 / 1200 sized lantern(s). Leather brings bit more suspension compared to plywood. Also space for kerosene bottle and other necessities.

500 CP Petromax will definitely not fit into a briefcase, but Tilley could fit into one, maybe.

When transporting lamps to scout camps etc I tend to use recycling boxes. In order to give some protection I have cut an old karrimat to shape and put it in the bottom (karrimat is a foam insulator that goes between your sleeping bag and the ground)
I've then made up some wooden battens which divide the box into lamp size compartments and wrap the battens themselves with foam as well. Not the most beautiful of boxes but does the job. Perhaps if you have a particularly precious lamp then an individual box is fine but for carrying 10 or so Tilley X246bs I find the recycling box solution works quite well.
I have seen other groups using milk crates to carry lamps as well.
All our preheaters, mantles and gas lighters etc get carried in a plastic toolbox.

When car camping I use these for my Tilley X246s. The case on the left is an old projector box. The one on the right is one I made myself from plywood and a old boot (the locking device).

The projector case carries spares and a spare 171 globe. I also have a few microscope boxes that I carry my Austramaxes in.

    Cheers

...You did well!....They certainly look the part :)
...Did you incorporate any part of the older case into your new boxes at all?

I purchased this box a few years ago which I think was purpose made for 2 lamps - if it wasn't its certainly a good fit! 1459624786-IMG_1930_opt.jpg

When I am transporting lamps I just fill up the trunk with lamps and afterwards I stuff the gabs with strips of a sleeping mat of foam rubber. Well I have a small car :D

I considered making tubes of this foam rubber sleeping mat taped together with Dutchtape so one dont have to fill the trunk each time ;)
