    Hi all,

just got this lantern and I really do not kwow what it could be. It looks like a Petromax 826 clone.

Does anybody have an idea what it could be?

    You're welcome Götz.
Sorry I can't help you with the lantern question, though.
But I'm sure someone will solve the mystery soon enough.

This is an odd one and I have never seen a green globe cage on this type of lantern before. You do see green enamell on some parts of lamps from HK and China and your suggestion that this is a clone from the far east is probably right. I suggest you remove the globe cage to see if there are any markings on the brass castings. These valve castings are often embossed with a maker which may give some indication of the company who made it. ::Neil::

Nah Neil - you have probably seen them on the uruguayan lamp Ilsa. The make enameled lamps where the whole cages is in different "parrot"-colours but their tanks are more sharp-edgeds like Coleman 252. I dont know if the former models of Ilsa had more "Petromax 826"-shaped tanks though.

No I haven't. Ilsa is not Argentina they are Uruguay and I have never seen a green one. They may well make exciting coloured lamps but here you got me because I have never seen one other than chrome plated. Mine is all chrome but I have seem images of one with a white enamelled top. You know something I don't and I don't have much info on Ilsa so tell me more please. ::Neil::

I beleive they today still makes lamps, but only gas-lamps (campingstuff)

I took it apart and many parts are marked with PX or Petromax. The fount is made of steel.

I found a discussion on the Pelam forum about this type. It does not really help though.

    Link

I will add some pics of the parts later.

If you trust the parts wasnt changed, could it then be a shipment PX ment for civil use under the war :?: .
The cage of your 1826 looks a bit like the 2826:

But the lightninghole for the spiritcup is not quite the same.

The top of the tank doesnt look like a usual 826 from that time to me - but I dont know if the 2826 had that look??

You probably know the 826 but I added a war-time civil 826 tank anyway, also looking like dropping from a elephant  .

If it was a Petromax then I would expect the valve block to be embossed also. 826 and 2826 are both Petromax model numbers so maybe 1826 is as well. The 2 prefix is normally considered to be a military indicator and the tanks are painted not plated. Itu is therefore possible that the 1 prefix is Petromax for some as yet unknown use. Civillian perhaps? Odd though because Petromax normally marked everything and this one is not marked on the tank which suggests another retailer or user who has created a lamp from parts from more than one factory. ::Neil::

Hi there, the valve block is not marked and there ist no spring loaded valve installied and the lower part of the valve rod is also missing. This seems to be original, since the lamp is NOS. It did not look that way at the first glance but it has never been lighted.

My idea is that production remnants of any kind where shipped oversee or used otherwise in not completely petromax lanterns.
So you make a batch steel lantern tanks and the war stops. Crap what to do with it ?
In Europe nobody wants to have something from Germany for some time. So all kind of stock piles would be moved to other places.

Btw the original px centre mounted valve didn't had the hexagonal nut under it. Or is it one piece ? Hard to see on the picture.

It took me a while but now it is running. :)

I had to soldier quite a bit and repainted the fountain with RAL 8012, which comes pretty close to the original.
