This is the last of these model 243 economy lanterns. This one is date marked 11 63 for November 1963. I cannot find an illustration of this model in any Coleman paper I have. It is not listed in Canadian parts catalogues for 1962 or 1964. I know it is not at all common and I suspect it was only made for one year. I have had to do some serious fettling to make this one run. The pump tube had to be resoldered in and I had to replace the fuel/air tube because the original would not work and more importantly had stuck in the casting and had to be broken up to remove the pieces.
I am having some challenges restoring my 243B 1955 model.. Bought at a market recently, and after cleanup, changing all the seals and pressure test, tried to light it up. It blew air. So took out the cast with the F&A tube attached, external clean done on F&A tube and the shaft moves freely. For this lamp I don't know how to remove the F&A mixture from cast. No obvious way visible. Is this a sealed unit? Appreciate some help
The F/A tube looks like it does not come apart, but mine did on my 1963 243b. It unscrewed just like 242's and 200a's. I don't see how it could be made as a sealed unit. I could not get mine off either and just cleaned it the best I could without taking it apart. But my lantern wasn't getting enough fuel, so I took it apart again and used a little more effort to unscrew the F/A tube. It burned great after cleaning the tube, spring and rod inside.
I wrapped a shop rag around the tube and tightened pliers just enough to unscrew it without damaging the tube. Be very careful. They can break off.
