This lantern was made in Canada, March 1951. Had been hanging in my garage for some time waiting for a clean and service, which I got around to today. The generator needle was clean so I'm guessing it has only been fired several times previously.
NZ, This is a REALLY fine lantern! One that's on my list, but they are mostly seen over here in a dark blue color. I really like the nickel finish and that vent is superb; not often (ever?) seen over here. Is it steel or some other metal? It looks a bit like brushed aluminum. Dan
Hello Dan, those aluminium hoods also turn up on some Coleman propane lanterns in the USA., so that mught be a cheap way of obtaining those scarce hoods, Jeff.
The dark blue are 243 and 243A models and they all have mica globes and black enamel hoods. This B version seems to be rare in the US and not all that common anywhere else although I have seen a few turn up. The 241 range of lanterns also used that aluminium hood but they are kero lanterns which were mostly export so again rare in the US. According to a Coleman flyer there should be a similar hood in chrome plated brass but I have never seen one of those. ::Neil::
The F/A tube looks like it does not come apart, but mine did on my 1963 243b. It unscrewed just like 242's and 200a's.
Does anyone know if the aluminum ventilators were stamped or poured? Or if they were polished? The finish on them looks just like the finish on the 530 stove cases and 1A funnels. They would all have to be forged aluminum?
