Foolish me, I didn't think to get the full name and Manufacturer. All I can remember is Socony(?), I think. An electrified abomination. Such a tragic end, to a beautiful Hanging Pressure Lamp.
I don't think there's any harm done here. This lamp is made out of a stove tank. I bet that it actually was made like this from the beginning from various parts. I don't think it ever was a real pressure lamp. It doesn't look "right". Socony was Standard Oil Company, wasn't it? They had their brand on some items made for kerosene, so the stove might have been one of those. Like Sunflower or Vacuum?
Do you think it's capable of being made to burn Kerosene again, or is that not possible, being electrified from it's beginnings then?
As I said; I don't think it ever was made to work with kerosene at all. Atleast not as a pressure lamp. I bet it was made from a surplus stove tank to work on electricity from the beginning. Can't you get back there? I'm sure a peek under that glass will proove that it never was built with a vapouriser and burner.
Socony was what Standard Oil called their "burning products division". They supplied wick lanterns (Rayo) and wicks. They never made their own lanterns as far as I can find but in those days of wick lanterns they could contract another company, i.e. Dietz, Buell, Ham and so forth to supply Socony with lanterns that would not carry the true made of the manufacturer.
