...Has anyone experience of cleaning Aluminium that has gone ' Powdery ' at all please?

...I would like to soak it or brush something on and leave it for a while as the Ride on mower repairs have escalated to the point of..... :rage:

...any helpful hints most welcome :(

    I have.

I'm loath to tell you how I did it as I'm over these types of arguments.

If you want to know PM me.

However you do it, it's not easy.

Someone may have found a magical potion of some sort that I don't know about.

A member of this forum told me of such a product. You wipe it on then off and the aluminium is shiny. I asked for the product name but it never arrived.

These are hoods of Wizard Light Co lights that were highly oxidised.

...In case of any confusion, the Alu is Lamp based...
    ...not Lawnmower based...

..Thanks Matt, when I get a min later i'll give you a shout,

    Cheers,

If it's a large part, you can use a regular buffing wheel with a suitable compound.
Otherwise I think Autosol works fine on oxidised aluminium.
But it will take some elbow grease...

Ride on mower... what is this? The middle ages!?
Get yourself a good robotic mower so you can spend those sunny days on the verandah, drinking beer while it does the work for you.
Or use the freed time to something useful. Like fettling a lamp.

Always used autosol on my bikes - just beware that it will re-oxidise afterwards!

...Thanks Mr. Christer and also thanks you for the helpful advice about the Robotic mower....
...Is that what you use then?

There is just under 3/4 of an acre so would probably start beeping after 5 mins that it's battery is flat...

I suppose I did say all suggestions helpful.. ](*,)

Thanks also Expat.... I get the message.....

I was hoping someone might have said some sort of light acid but I suppose being soft it pits badly?

    Yes, I got a Husqvarna.
Your area is hardly any problems. My lawn is about half an acre, and that's no problems with the 430X I got.
It shall cope your 3/4 too, and without any fuzz. (It's rated for 3200 square metres).
To get some margins, there's always next model - 450X - which covers 5000 square metres.
That's a full Swedish acre, and if I get it right, almost one and a quarter UK acre?

aluminium fabrication firms use to clean finished products
check with them or chemical suppliers

I've replied to your message with my method.

The photo you see is after the first step I take. The hoods were severely oxidised prior to what you see in the photos.

All leg pulling aside they are mad bits of kit, looking like a cross between Robot Wars and Dr.Who's dog....

Gps, headlamps, smart phone technology, optional tea and toast facility, and the top of the range model has a stealth mode which knowing you Christer i bet yours has got?

...Makes my poor old Honda and much maligned Weedeater look like something from Steptoe & Son :(

Yeah, it's a cool little robo. :content:

    And yes! It's stealth...
    1464191376-IMG_1860.jpg

    ... atleast in appearence.

The taller grass in the background is also handled by automatic force.
But of the four legged kind.
They have just been released, hence the tallness still of that grass.

Before I invested in the robotic mower, I used a large Stiga Park.
It's a ride-on with hydrostatic drive and a wide, front mounted mower deck.
It is a grand machine, but still I got fed up with the necessity to take it out, perhaps every third day when the grass was at it's best (worst!) growth!
Now it's used as a backup and to take down the grass on the larger area a bit away where I have my wood shed and process my fire wood.

I got a bit interested to know more about your tractor with the pto driven mower!
    What kind is it?

The phone control need an optional card.
After that it's possible to control it with an app called "My Automower", or something like that.
It's standard on the top model 450X, but I need to buy it extra.
I might get it later on. It will make it handier to program and monitor.

    ...Wow... space age stuff!

...Sorry to disappoint on the tractor front.... I was attempting a joke....
...The part of the garden that i use the sit-on mower is more akin to a field, hence the mention of Tractor and pto + 'topper' or drum mower....

..It's not just the height of the grass but the type of grass which forms large tufts which clog or grab at normal mower height blades...

    ..All good fun... ](*,)

    Ah! Got it.

Fence it in and get a couple of horses.
    Best mowers there are.

No, I don't have horses myself.
But they are everywhere here, and I know how good they are at grazing. They bite very even and close to the ground.

The 4-legged "mowers" on the field directly outside the lawn are regular cattle, and it was those I was thinking about in my comment.
They are not by far as effective as horses.

My father used to say that there's only one thing that keeps grass shorter than a horse - - - - - a stone !

    Off topic.

My favourite quote form my now passed away father was....

"There are only two things in life, You Beauty! or You bastard!"

You beauty,in Australian vernacular in this case meaning very good, and you bastard meaning very bad.
