Here is a Preway Junior Model L47P running on Coleman fuel with a Peerless 2C-HG mantle and a globe from a Century propane lantern. I discovered how to disassemble the pumps on these so I could service the NRV and discovered that the on Pretiss-Wabers lanterns the pump does not go directly into the fuel as on other lanterns with NRVs. There is an outer tube that the pump slides into that has an air tube coming off at an angle towards the top of the fount 3/4 of the way up the outer tube. The material I used to replace the original cork pip was silicone 'Rescue Tape'. The gen is an unmodified 220/228/275 generator. Another thing on this particular lantern is that I have to use the pre-heat cup for Coleman fuel as well because there appears to be nor fuel/air function to this valve. I plan on getting a mica chimney for it from Fred Kuntz eventually... If anyone knows a better date for this lantern I would appreciate the title correction
After further fettling tonight (after the lantern failed to light period) I discovered the the fuel assembly was all gunked up including the air orifice which explained why I was unable to light it normally like my L13A. It now lights properly with out the use of the pre-heat cup.
Neat lantern! You mentioned that it's running on Coleman fuel. Click on the link below to see what that fuel costs in the UK., also scroll down the page to see what this bandit is charging for delivery if one does not live on the UK., mainland, Jeff. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Coleman-Fuel-500ml-/260754314552?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Camping_CookingSupplies_ET&hash=item3cb62b1538
Actually right now its running on stove and lantern fuel from the Sunnyside Corporation... But, its basically the same thing.
Hi Jeff, And we "Yanks" cry and moan over $9/gallon Coleman fuel. At that price for a quart you should be getting a kiss, 'cause you're surely being scuhrood! I've burned a bunch of the Sunnyside Mac. Cheaper than Coleman fuel most times and just as good. I found a local hardware store chain that was selling it for $6.99/gallon at one point. I bought a case! Bob
Yeah its about a dollar less that the CF here at $7.99 compared to $8.88 or higher depending on which store you're at...
Hello Bob, I could not have put it better! (1 litre = 1.759 753 986 pint [UK]). (1 litre = 2.113 376 41 pint [US, liquid]). The link below is for a very useful measurement conversion website. Jeff. http://www.theonlineconverter.co.uk/volume-converter/
Last year, I saw Coleman fuel being sold in one litre plastic bottles for £4.99. That was the cheapest I've ever seen it in the UK - maybe about $7.50 per litre. I've no idea what the current price is, but I would imagine it's risen since then. Any of the UK members got an up-to-date price for it? Previously, it was obtainable only in 500ml cans for up to £7.50 a pop - about the same price as malt whisky...
Ah, the price of kerosene - there's another thing that's risen extortionately in the UK... ...unless you know a man who knows someone who...
Yes, it pays to have contacts! A 4 litre can of paraffin in Shetland costs over £7.50, Jeff. 1 gallon [UK] = 4.546 09 litre 1 gallon [US, liquid] = 3.785 411 8 litre 1 gallon [UK] = 1.200 949 92 gallon [US, liquid]
