    Hi all,

This is my latest American old timer restoration. It needed a generator restoration, exchanging the asbestoses stuffing with a rolled mesh tube, and some leakages fixed. After removing the dirt and soot it turned out to be a good looking oldie.

This is a gasoline torch lighted twin mantle lamp of probably 300 CP. It has just a shut off valve control, no pricker, and an adjustable air intake tube. I don’t know what type of globe/shade it should have, but a clear glass or half frosted globe would be possible and also an opal dome shade seen on the early Solar Light “Nulite” lamp.
I don’t know the maker of this unmarked lamp, but I believe it could have been made by the National Stamping & Electric Works/Chicago or their predecessor Solar Light Co. /Chicago.
The tank is identical to a lamp I’ve seen on the Net and which is said to probably have been made of this/these company/companies. Another similarity is the fancy embossed shade holder gallery that could be seen also in early hollow wire lamps from the National Stamping and Electric Works.

    /Conny

Hello Conny, it's a great lamp!

It may have been made by AGM., Neil may be able to identify it, Jeff.

This is an AGM model 12 parlour lamp. Made around 1910 and certainly not later than about 1915. Not a common lamp as I have only seen one in the flesh and know of maybe two others in captivity. Nice lamp. ::Neil::

Neil - thanks for identifying the lamp. Do you have a catalogue image of this lamp, I can’t find any?

I don't have any paper at all for this one. In fact right now I can't remember how I know what make and model it is. I can only think that the example Fil Graff in the US owns must be marked with make and model. I know I have seen that one and examined it but that was maybe 10 years ago now and I don't recall the detail. I also know that at least twice the same lamp has been sold on the Bay and each time the seller gave the make and model which has to mean they were marked.

I really don't like doing this but all I can say for now is you will have to take my word for it. ::Neil::

    MARVELOUS CONNY!
The whole valve/burner assembly is unique to any I have ever seen. It burns beautifully!

Wow! That's just an amazing lamp. Congratulations on a good find and fettle.
How about putting the globe you got there in the blaster? I'm sure it would give the lamp a much better look with a frosted, or 2/3-frosted, globe.

I think you should send some images of it to Terry Marsh. I'm sure it would fill it's place well in there.

Christer, I agree that a frosted or partly frosted shade would have been more appropriate, even an opal globe or dome shade would have been better than the one displayed. Than again, you must deal with what have at hand and a sand blaster machine is not an item that I have access to. The shade fitter size for this lamp is as big as 5 inch 12,5 cm, and this size is more of a gas lamp shade holder than that of a normal pressure table lamp shade fitter; so that limits the options of available shades.
Christer, I have several copies of that clear glass shade and it would be nice if you could help me out getting one of them frosted. Please send me a PM or an e-mail!

Terry has already asked me if he could display this lamp on his site, so hopefully one can see it in there soon.

Hello Conny, several years ago I saw a photo of Fil Graff's example of this lamp, he had a white opal dome shade on it, which really suited the lamp.

I also like the globe which is on your lamp, as the mantles are easily visible and no brighteness is lost with that globe.

I reckon that this would have been an expensive lamp in it's day, hence there are not many of them around. Jeff.

    Hi,

Here is a version of the parlour lamp with an old opal dome shade. This is what I first had in mind, having seen similar table lamps with that shade configuration. How the original shade for this lamp looked like, we can only find out having the proper documentation. I will keep this shade on, I think it looks good!

Recent research now tells us this is not an AGM lamp but a Knight Light Reading Lamp from around 1910. We have found an advert in four newspapers dated 1910 which clearly show this lamp and a single mantle type. ::Neil::

Very nice lamp and the dome shade looks nice on it. I have a couple of those lamps that Neil may be referring to in a previous post. I could add a photo if that's proper procedure.
    Again very nice lamp.

We love pictures, but please post in a new topic here in the Reference Gallery since it's not this particular lamp.
