Fire?   Sorry PB, I couldn't resist. I'm sure there are some chemicals out there to do it, but I don't know of any. Last time we needed some woodworm killer, you could still get proper stuff reasonably. We stocked up, still using it now.

Depending on size - put it in the freezer.
Kerosene is also working and disappear afterwards over time.

At the airport they tell you to put small stuff in the freezer for a few hours kills the borers and eggs plus wrap it in a plastic bag .
If its furniture something large take it to your friendly butcher and put in his freezer overnite .

My local furniture restorer uses Shellite (= Coleman Fuel) as a borer killer. It's residual odor lasts for a shorter time than Kerosene.

But putting it in the freezer for a week would also work.

Many of the older products were quite toxic to humans (DDT etc).

    Cheers

Toxic to the Mosquito as well. Variously reported that upwards of 30million Africans died after the DDT ban:

Quite - just goes to show you can't have it both ways...

On a side issue, I detest the use of emotive language like "skyrocketed" and "soared". It would have been far more honest to say 'rose' and let the figures speak for themselves. Anyway...

...Yes, already used that method to good effect and prefer to burn wormy wood if I can....

....Many thanks for all the freezer suggestions, I hadn't heard of that before....

....The old man didn't do enough to stop it and it is in almost every bit of wood in the old Wash House/ Outbuildings, Roof joists included, so I am gonna need a lot and will probably have to spray it....

...I have seen on the 'Mythbusters' programme where they used a type of aerosol can that is used to kill bugs...

...Perhaps some of our American Collectors know of them?... :-k

    ..Probably banned over here..

...I also wondered if any of the Scientists here would be able to suggest a mix, say between Paraffin and Xylene thinners?....

    ...All helpful suggestions welcome... :)

    Many thanks,

    PB

I wouldn't rely on www.eco-imperialism.com to provide an objective, demographic, or economic analysis of most things... in order to understand the analysis, you have to understand the motive behind the analysis.

    Cheers

No, I wasn't Tony - notice my mention of honesty in my post above.

Once I see the use of emotive language anywhere, my suspicions are immediately aroused and my intelligence feels insulted. I won't be manipulated by such a brazen and shoddy trick. You'll be glad you're not in the UK at the moment having to hear the absolute sh!te being peddled by both sides in the run-up to the EU referendum... ](*,)

Freezer, at least -20C, should work. Lager object: plastic bag and some carbide like the stuff you use in your lantern, or some of you I hope.

Mind you : ON YOUR OWN RISK. Don't smoke when you open the bag nor inhale the fumes ;-)
