Ok, I bought a Coleman 275, the dreaded brown turd.
It says 275 but somewhere else it says 275b
I liked the shape of it
It felt heavy, nice lamp I thought.
It was full to the brim with fuel so not that heavy.
Put a couple of Gasman mantles on and it fired straight up
In daylight it looked great but as it started to get dark I noticed one side was burning brighter than the other, on closer look one of the mantles had a small hole, this was the brighter one.
Obviously I need to replace the mantle with the hole.
I've no idea what fuel is in it but guess it's Coleman as it doesn't smell like Petrol.
It has a date of 1981 but no mention of dual fuel.
    Can it run on unleaded?

Only if you want to quickly clog the generator with the additives in unleaded petrol and have to buy a new one...

There is really nothing wrong with the 275 lanterns aside from the color. The appellation "Turd" came about when someone on the Coleman forum was having trouble with one and unfortunately the name stuck, probably because of the color.

They were the first Coleman lantern with the Schrader valve style fuel pick up and so have some idiosyncrasies and can be a bit tempermental to fettle. On the plus side they've got a nice wide fount that makes for a stable lantern and they put out a good bit of light.

David is spot on about gasoline shortening generator life.

Yes I know it makes sense, I'm just too tight to buy Coleman fuel.
To be fair this lamp lights up so easily and it's not a bad looking lamp when its dark.
They don't seem to be too hard to find considering they weren't made for all that long.
My one seems to be ok so I can't really run the lamp down.

    Dead right.
I was going to say that it looks alright from Barnet.
only a mile or two away.

You could do a paraffin conversion by using a needle and jet from a Coleman 200A generator and a brass spiral from a 201 gennie. Fit a spirit cup from a 201 and you are good to go.

I coincidentally bought a 6/80 brown 275 in near mint condition on Wednesday. They are well built heavy lanterns and put out a lot of light, almost like a 295.

Got it. Can't see Barnet from here. Brookmans Park is in the way.

Yeah, Brookmans park is a nuisance
The Transmitting station gave me Capitol Gold every time I used my phone until I fitted a filter but when the Internet came on the scene It took me ages to realise why I didn't have a good connection, it was the filter.

hmm - Capital Gold, I think that is Saffron Green not Brookmans Park to blame there. But yes a blocking filter for that would put the kibosh on ADSL very nicely.

Was told by BT engineer Brookmans park to blame

:) Be sure it was Saffron Green.
It it were BP you would have been getting Radio5 loudest with Absolute & Talk Sport underneath. Sorry for off topic!

Decided to convert it to a multi purpose lamp
All I have to do now is build myself an outside
    Khasi.
I was thinking of getting a patent but think someone else had already invented one similar

It's more of an Ar&e lamp
Apart from lighting the toilet area it also warms the paper for
winter nights making the experience more enjoyable

OK decided to change it back to a standard lamp
    Err, that's something else
    I mean a normal lamp.
I like the idea of running it on Paraffin but have decided to keep it as it is.
Don't think I will actually use it much but have had a bit of fun with it.
