How do I replace the NRV in a Hipolito 250 CP? My NRV was pushing paraffin back up the pump tube? I have a NOS NRV that I can install. But the currently installed one doesn't have a way to use a slot screwdriver to remove the old one. Any ideas?

Hi there, .... I have just done a quick search on Ebay and there are tools available for the Primus type stoves, but there are lots of people here who would be able to tell you if they would fit your Hipolito ... ...but probably tomorrow as they are all fast asleep! regards, pb
You might check over on CCS, I purchased a tool over there a while back as it is the same tool for the stoves. The slot shown in James's post is 5mm wide.
It's better to make your own. Especially if it's only meant to be used for one single occasion. Since you already got the NRV you are intending to replace the old with, you already have the size of the slot you need to make in the rod or other piece of steel you need for your tool. It's made in no time, and it will be much better than most of the standard, original ones you buy at eBay.
Hi Newfie, If you're going to use the Primus tool then if the NRV is stiff be careful the tool doesn't slip off it and round off the corners. If that happens its not a total disaster but an annoyance as the pump tube must be unsoldered and removed to get the old NRV out. If you have an angle grinder I recommend making a tool by cutting a slot into the end of a lump of steel bar about the same diameter as the pump tube. I used an old tyre iron to make one. James.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed so I'm probably better off buying instead of making. I'd probably screw something up. They're not outrageously priced either. The seller I saw selling them also has more stuff I need for some of my other lamps.
Beware, I bought one from ebay and on the first use on a tight NRV, the slot opened up and rounded tho corners of the NRV. Jim.
Hi Newfie, I made mine from an old bolt which just fit down the pump tube. Made two or three cuts with a fine hacksaw and then used a small file to finish the slot. It took a little time but I was able to get it spot-on. If you're not very confident, start with something a little too long. If you feel that your first attempt isn't quite right, you can cut it off and have another go. Alternatively; do you know anyone near to you that could help ? For example, someone who's into model engineering, or just plain "handy". Cheaper than buying one. Henry.
