    "Looks great".

By what possible stretch of the imagination? It looks absolute shite, aside from which it is unsafe feeding that cable through there without a grommet. [-X

If you don't hear from me for a while I'm off to convert some 246Bs and sell them to mugs with no taste...

But you get a colour co-ordinated mains plug.
    £1-50 for that at least.

"Looks great" is opinion presented as fact. Unfortunately, opinions are like ar&eholes - everyone has one...

For members who can't spell, David means 'Assholes'.

    ...or more likely; 'Arseholes'...
But 'assholes' make more sense to the majority of the world. ;)

    Christer you are correct.
For large parts of the world who are ignorant of English, it is Ass.

    Yes.
But since David also always insist on using a dollar sign instead of a proper 'S' in most four-letter (oh, well... sometimes three letter) words, I guess the US-theme actually is more appropiate all-over.

Christer, David used the $ symbol to avoid saying a profanity directly.
As English is not your first language I forgive you for not understanding the nuances or not understanding the difference between 'arse' and 'ass'.

I know the difference between ass and arse in English Trevor. And it's hardly a nuance. It's totally different things.
But I meant that it's more common to use the US word ass for your behind in most of the world, hence the badly made joke about David's often used $ to 'hide' profanities, which I of course also know is used to avoid saying a profanity directly.
    Silly if you ask me.
Arse will be read arse even if spelled ar$e (or ar&e)
And if the word itself is considered so horrible that it can't be spelled correctly, well then it's better to just simply avoid it over all, isn't it?
    Write as you speak.

    Hi everybody,

ahah, I really hate electrificators too, but let's elaborate a little:

1: That lantern I'm sure wasn't in the wishlist of any expert fettler or collector, probably unrestorable and with missing parts, so the junkyard monster was waiting for it to eat all its metal...

2: Its parts are not so rare to consider them precious in any way, more and more parts available are out there ready to save other lanterns. Additionally you cannot expect that a non-collecotr would try to sell it for spare parts, trying to save some lanterns addicts :)

3: The lantern now has a second chance to get back in a house and shine, probably an hipster/decorator/student will adopt it.

4: The 150£ tag seems high to a collecotr that evaluates the lantern market everyday, but if you look at this lantern as a mere object it costs like an ikea chinese lamp, it's a one time purchase, an object to complete a room... nothing more. So, good for the seller and good for the buyer if it is that what he wants.

Now I have to go to the electric store to buy some stuff, my 2 cents by the way :)

    Nicola

    PS

    Sorry for my poor english!

Only my own opinion, but some of these folk who think they are doing wonders "upcycling" stuff e.g. electrifying a pressure lamps etc should be lined up against a wall and shot...

James - With regards to the humble X246B, not everyones cup of tea perhaps but still one of my favourite working lamps and also relatively "Scoutproof" so 99p is a little harsh - more suited to everbody's pet hate on this forum - the "wickie" aka hurricane Lamp! :D/

Not sure what I was thinking at the weekend when I picked up an x246b, it came with a bialaddin 305 and a vapalux 300 aswell, the discount for taking those two only wasn't great enough to leave the Tilley there. Also picked up a beautiful Coleman [strike]turd[/strike] 275, reminds me I need to post in the wanted section....

Ha! So you have a 246B now.
I brought a 246B to Newark for you when we had the anniversary light-up.
It was free for you and you said that you would not have that rubbish!

    [-X More commonly used still doesn't make it correct - tut-tut... [-X

 [-( Surely I don't need to remind you of the forum rules, Christer:-

"We aim to be a work & family friendly forum. Please do not post nudity, profanity etc."

Now I need to go and lie down in a darkened room for a couple of hours...

David, that's part of my point!.
Even if you write ar$e, it still is a profanity.
Just as much as if you had typed it as it was meant; arse.
    It's just silly.

Hey Trevor, I only said I'd picked one up, I never said it wasn't rubbish. ;)  The glass will fit a real X246, the vapouriser will fit a variaty of real lamps and the brass sheet in the tank will go to repair something.
