Don't you hate it when this happens...

So far I've been pretty lucky with shipped glass until this arrived through the post:

I usually advice seller to give it a good wrap of gaffa-tape around the cage and glass. That fix it all and usually works if seller dont want to do harder work to save the glass.
But still I did try that too
It going to be a fine lamp anyway despite the little bump on the road to beautyfull

I always ask the seller to double-box the glass (i.e. pack it in its own small box within the main parcel) and use plenty of packing. I find that's the best way of having the globe arrive safely. It's generally disastrous if it's left within the globe cage, no matter how firmly it's wedged or secured...

Box in box is always the best. Mind you: the postman can drop the parcel from his hands, so a 1 meter drop must be no problemo....

 

So sorry for your lamp, it happened to me a couple of times... last one to a solex 252 with original globe, unfortunately arrived home in pieces...

Packing the globe in a separate box is best, but sellers are often lazy, so I've found that asking them to wrap the globe in two layers of small bubble wrap, making sure it's folds over the top and the bottom of the globe and putting back in its place works well. I've had no breakages so far with this method.

This method would be possible when the globe cage would not be able to bend due to a strike at the top of the lantern. Thus I prefer separate packing. However, essential is always enough space inside the parcel around the items with loose stuffing (e.g. crumpled newspapers, foam chips etc.).

 

I got a partial refund from the seller and it's easy enough to get a glass that will fit, seen as it is the same size used on the 250cp Petromax etc. Of course it won't be a Primus branded glass.

Actually I was thinking of using this lantern for parts as I need a burner for a 995 table lamp but it's in too good shape and I will wait for a junker to come along.

 

a globe from a Coleman 288 will fit as well ;i have used them in my kerosene types and fit nice ;
