Not posted for a while , been busy fettling. However i have two rusty cages for cleaning and noticed the different type of handle connection. I wondered when they were redesigned from the simple bent wire type to the later modern bracket. Also should these lamps all have a brass pump or the cheaper alloy type. Thanks for any info you have. Clive.
The change from the older bent frame to the 'ears' bracket happened in the mid 1950s. X246s should have brass pumps. Aluminium pumps came on the X246B. I'm not sure whether aluminium pumps, as seen on the X246B, were fitted to some of the later X246As. Cheers Tony
Thanks for reply, both these lamps have alloy type pumps but look better with all brass i think so i will fit these as i have spares. Shame that both cages are so rusted but both have traces of gold paint. Is that the norm for these item colours, i have seen one painted black though. Both have Brown hoods which seem to corrode more than Black , or it might be because they are older. Clive.
