I tried to contact the seller to talk through the packing of this item but heard nothing... But this arrived today: NIB, with a spare vapouriser and new reflector (and a note saying "emergency lighting"). I'll post detailed photos in the Reference Library later this week. If there is any aspect of this lantern anyone wants detailed photos of, let me know. Cheers Tony
I've not noticed that "Type C1" (or is it "CI"?) notification before - maybe because these tend to arrive unboxed here in the UK being ex-military stock. Is it marked as such anywhere on the lantern? Looking again, maybe it refers to the type of paraffin (=kerosene) to be used. Any ideas, anyone?
David I'll check that out when I photograph it in detail and let you know (sometime alter this week). Cheers Tony
... by the way, for those that don't know, Type C1 Kerosene is a "light" (as in not heavy) kerosene. See this: http://electricheatingcosts.com/class-c1-paraffin/ and this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerosene Cheers Tony
...and I looked at these:- CI = corrosion inhibitor: www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA554221 or; CI = compression ignition: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40544-013-0025-z ...and it can also represent 'carbon-intensity': https://ec.europa.eu/energy/sites/ener/files/documents/Study%20on%20Actual%20GHG%20Data%20Oil%20Gas%20Executive%20Summary.pdf
I know, Tony - I've tried it twice and it's shit. Anyway, it's all academic because it's nothing to do with lantern variants but instead, seems to be information for military-types to the effect that you should use whatever aviation kerosene is to hand. In reality, we civilian-types know you can use just about anything in the paraffin/kerosene range of fuels including heating oil, barbeque lighting fluid and God alone only knows what else. Bah! - I'm going back to bed...
Mysteriously 3 links now appear in David's post, two odf which work... But, Occam's razor would suggest that Wills and Bates refer to the British Standard "C1" for the type of kerosene, which is lighting kerosene, not C2 which is heating kerosene. When you leave the EU all of this will be re-instated... Cheers Tony.
...and now an image as well. Ah, the wonder of being able to edit my shit! Anyway, it's C1 and not CI so all that confusion was caused years ago by some dick-head who couldn't differentiate between the two characters...
Hello everyone...first post and looking forward to contributing. Interestingly, I picked up something almost identical to this recently. Marked as 1982 Vapalux M320 Civilian silver, it came in a similar box, split reflector/hood (all as new with instructions) and a used 'Tin can' type spirit bottle with spout. Definitely one of the best 'starter' lamps, very reliable and easy to light, well made and very good lamp for the price. Good as a 'First Lamp' I must admit to preferring the 'Prop-up' style pre-heat spirit cup found on older lamps...the fixed raised collar just reeks of penny pinching. Martin
