Can someone please confirm the ID & year of manufacture of this lamp. It has no markings on the tank side or collar with the exception of "Made in the United States of America" on the rim of the tank. Underneath around the edge is "Made in USA Coleman Lamp & Stove Co Wichita KAN", the Sunshine of the night stamp in the middle, number 6 on the left & 12 on the right and several US patents & a British patent underneath.
Apart from a modern Dual fuel this is the first Coleman lamp I have, so all a bit new! cheers

Yes given the date stamp I think 228B is probably right. It could just be a late 228C from 1946 but they always have the model number stamped on the collar. The hood looks to be too good for a '30s lantern but they do sometimes survive very well. Problem with these 220/228 models is superficially they look the same from about 1930 to 1983. How is the pump cap fitted to the pump tube? Models 228B and C the pump cap is screwed on, Models 228D and early 228E it is two small grub screws and later E and all subsequent models it is a spring clip.

These are gasoline single fuel lanterns and require Coleman fuel or equivalent to perform well. It will not like unleaded gasoline. ::Neil::

Hi Thanks for the information. There are no markings on the collar and the pump is a screw on type , so I will take it as a 228B

    Best regards
